From April through October the Red Oak Victory hosts a Pancake Breakfast one Sunday of each month. Come enjoy a hearty breakfast in a lovely outdoor setting aboard the deck of the Red Oak, and your $6 donation (children 5 and under free) will help raise money for the restoration of the ship. This year's (2008) remaining dates are:
August 10
September 14
October 12
All dates are Sundays.

An occasion we look forward to each year at ROVARC, is the Museum Ships Amateur Radio Event. Originally conceived and organized by the USS Salem's Amateur Radio Club, the event is now sponsored by the Battleship New Jersey ARC and participation grows every year. Often there are nearly 100 museum ships around the world that fire up their radios to make contacts with each other and all interested amateur radio operators. Many, like the Red Oak, are using their original WWII-era radios as well as some contemporary ham gear.

ROVARC not only runs its own station, but we have also activated stations on other museum ships in the San Francisco Bay Area. For the past few years we've operated aboard the Lightship Relief and USS Potomac, at the Port of Oakland, with the call sign W6P, and logged over 500 QSOs from that ship. For a more detailed description of this event please see the write-ups from our previous years' events (links below) or visit the Battleship New Jersey ARC.

The ROVARC Club Station, K6YVM, is usually on the air for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veteran's Day at various times on 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters SSB.

ROVARC welcomes participation in special events by licensed amateur radio operators. The purpose of any event is to publicize the Red Oak Victory via amateur radio. Past visitor operations have included the California QSO Party and a low power, CW, maritime contest. Operators bring their own equipment and are responsible for their QSL cards. Overnight operations will be considered as there are a few staterooms available for berthing. If you are interested in working an event from onboard the Red Oak Victory please contact Gary Elliott, WA6KCP, for more information.
