New Members: We are pleased to welcome three new members of the Piedmont Chapter: Sharon Rogers, KA4ZBJ, of Chapel Hill , Bill Ball, K9ADO of Louisburg, and Frank Weiss, KY4W of Raleigh. We are also pleased to have Leon Winter, WX6I, of Waxhaw , NC as our newest Chapter Life Member.
Tidbits: Long time chapter member Bill Hutchins, KM4UO has advised us he plans to retire from ham radio and QCWA. We thank Bill for his service to the Piedmont Chapter over the years and wish he and wife Grace well. Sharon and Terry Rogers will keep us up to date on their welfare. Please be sure to communicate your best wishes to Bill. The annual ARRL Field Day will be upon us June 27-28. Drop in at a site of your choice or put together a FD expedition of your own with friends. The chapter call signs are available to chapter members with authorization of the officers/trustees. Sorry to hear of the recent passing of Don Jones, N4TN, of Kingsport, TN a friend of several Piedmont Chapter Members and DX/CW enthusiasts world wide. K4MK, W4HG and others attended his service. Several folks at the DurHamfest May 23 expressed an interest in our QCWA activity. Glad Nelson, W4FQV has been able to join our net Saturday morning again as well as Ken, WB2RFK. Net checkins have been up and down with plenty of competing Spring activities on Saturday mornings. K1AF continues to enjoy his new FlexSystems 5000 radio and on six meters. K4HF has been busy with estate equipment disposal and trying to overcome the physical and facility restrictions in an RF tight new assisted living facility to get a seasoned ham on the air, at least on VHF/UHF. Chapter members K4HM and KG4RMT are breaking in a new 5th wheel travel trailer at hamfests like Dayton and RV club outings. Don’t forget to apply for the Nat’l QCWA Service Awards and advise K4HF for future recognition. Keep the dues coming…the updated chapter roster is coming.
See you in Denton on June 13!
