13.Annual letter - 2000
Dear Friend!
20 th century as well as the second Millenium has come to the end. And we - all members of radioclub “Pulsar” send the very best wishes for next century and the third Millenium to our friends all over the world.
We are very lucky that you are one of them, because all of our friends, are wonderful people in all respects.
This year 2000 is over and we’d like to thank all of our friends for their support of our activity.
First of all our cordial gratitude to DF3DP - RZ9MYL award manager, DF5EB, DF8PG, DH1PAY, DH6ARM, DJ1KM, DJ1SS, DJ2JN, DJ9SZ, DK2JW, DK6AP, DL1GWD, DL1SEC, DL3JEN, DL3NDU, DL4NCY, DL6JD, EA3NA, G3GIQ, G4OLF, HB9KC, JA1EUT, JG5UNQ, K5AB, K9WK, OE1AGU, OE3FZA, PA3FZD, VE6SMI, VK6NY, W0RHT, W0RRL, for the donations!
Only due to the very kind support of our friends we could represent our club at the hamfest in Friedrichshafen-2000.
Our special gratitude to Edwin Janke DF5EB! He had prepared a lot of stands, awards, special QSL-cards, emblems of our club. His golden hands and abilities of designer helped us to show the club’s activity at the exhibition as bright as possible.
Now some words about the most bright events in club’s life in 2000.
For getting visa we had to have a formal invitation to visit Europe. Our cordial gratitude to one of our best friends Alexej Jalyschko DL7VAJ who made this invitation for both of us as he did in 1997.
To get the visas at German consulate in Novosibirsk was not so easy even with a right invitation because there was a long queue of visitors. So I had spent 3 days in Novosibirsk (thanks to Yuri UA9OBA for his hospitality) before I’ve got our visas.
So on Friday 9 June about midday we had landed in Hamburg airport where our hosts Hans Hufnagel DJ9SZ and his XYL Gertrud already were waiting for us. We did not forget their warm hospitality in 1997, so this time we felt ourselves like at home of our parents.
The same day Natella, one of our YLs, who was in 1998 a guest in the families of DJ9SZ and his friend Heinz Moerker, DJ1SS, arrived to Hamburg from Rostok, where she was studying at the university, in order to meet us and spend a weekend with her guestparents.
Due to Heinz Moerker, DJ1SS , we had visited Nord Deutsche Rundfunk (NDR) office, one of the most modern Broadcasting TV-studio, which was fully computerized (no camera-men at the cameras), and amateur club radiostation of NDR. Our special thanks to Anne Moerker for wonderful lunch at their datscha. Next days we met many friends, had an excursion to Hamburg’s harbour and to colour musical fountain.
On Monday 12. June we had moved with a fastest train ICE (InterCityExpress) to Hannover, where we were met by Reinhard Richter DJ1KM. It was very nice to meet him and his wife Inge again. Reinhard was a main manager of our visit to the West in 1997. He and his XYL Inge did all their best in order to make our stay with them really unforgettable. This year we visited Harz mountains. His new car was equipped with GPS so it was very interesting to see how his car (the sign of it) was moving through the map on the screen of car’s computer. In the evening of that day we all had a dinner in a Turkish restaurant together with another our YL – Olesia (who is studying economics at the Uni Hannover) and her boyfriend Carlos. Now we would like to express our cordial gratitude to Reinhard for his gifts to our club – this year it was Yaesu HT FT23 and FT73 and camera OLYMPUS. All our pictures in the West were made by this camera.
On Wednesday 14. June we had moved with an ICE to Dortmund, where we were met by Ernst Hoffmann DF3DP , who was a main manager of our visit this year. Unfortunately his wife Marga at these days was seriously ill (she was in the hospital), so Ernst was very busy. Nevertheless Ernst could manage our visit perfectly well. We had a very interesting visit to one of the biggest printing house in Dortmund and had a very useful discussion there. Together with Linda UA9MPG – one of our YLs, who is studying economics at the UniDo – we visited the very university. Also we were invited to a family of Edwin Janke DF5EB in Schermbeck not very far away from Dortmund. Edwin and his XYL Ursula have really golden hands. Almost all furniture at their home was made by Edwin. Ursula is a talented designer and she decorated all the rooms of their house.
On Saturday 17. June together with Edwin and Ursula we drove to Laten, where Ernst’s daughter Barbara is living. There was a club meeting of Edwin’s DF5EB club. All together we were about to go with Transrapid – superfast express using an effect of magnetic pillow. Its maximum speed is about 500 kmph. At the entrance we met family Moerker from Hamburg – DJ1SS Heinz and his XYL Anne .
After this excursion we met our next host Ton, PA3FZD and his lovely wife Corrie. After wonderful barbecue in a big company with Edwin and Ursula, Ernst, DF3DP, Linda UA9MPG and Barbara at Barbara’s home we started a long way through all the Holland to Bergen op Zoom.
We were for the first time in the Netherlands so everything was very interesting for us there. Ton and Corrie did all there best in order to make our stay in their family as nice as possible. On Sunday 18.06 we had a very interesting excursion to the town’s museum. Ton even arranged a russian-speaking guide there, so we learned a lot about Holland’s history. After that we got just in the center of jazz-festival. It was GREAT!!
On Monday we had a wonderful trip to the Deltawerke on the North sea coast. Before we read a lot about that fact that considerable part of Holland’s territory has negative altitude – below see level. Now we know how it may be – the way from the road to the barrage’s top is longer than the way from the barrage’s top to the sea. This day was very hot and sunny so we had got too much sun and were tired a little. But all of us had got one more surprize – Benn PA1BL came to meet us from Amsterdam as soon as we returned home. It was a visit just in russian style – nobody of us expected him that evening. Nevertheless he was interesting to talk to and we learned a lot about capital’s life.
On Tuesday we decided to stay at home – to relax a little bit before a very long trip through Netherlands, Belgium and Germany to Lindau near Friedrichshafen, about 850 km. It was our last day in Holland, so in the evening all van Meer’s family got together. It was very interesting for us to get to know three generations of the same family. All of them were extremely nice open people, especially two girls 15 (Denise) and 17 (Brenda) years young – Ton’s grandchildren. We had talked about everything in English and I was impressed how fluent they were in it as to compare with Russian first year language students . Already half a year has gone, but we still have a very warm memory about our stay with Ton and his really LOVELY wife Corrie. Just Corrie is the heart of this family! Her eyes radiate so much kindness, her soul is so young, that we (I and my XYL) just fell in love with her.
Next early morning in four persons we started a long way to Bodensee to participate at HAM-Radio in Friedrichshafen. Ton is a very good driver and his “red rocket” delivered us to Lindau without any troubles.
There we met our next host Wilfried Westhaeusser DL1GWD. We came to Tettnang to Wilfried and his wife Hanne-Lore already for the third time.
They hosted us in 1994 and in 1997 as well. Every time we feel ourselves in their house like at home, so warm their reception is. Hanne-Lore did all her best at the kitchen, she is a talented cook and we never forget her breakfasts and dinners. Besides she is a good artist and she likes the same music as we like. Wilfried and his friend Helmut Knecht DL1GKH helped us a lot during HAM radio. Our participation there would be just impossible without their assistance.
This year we’ve got our own booth as we represent the only Russian radioclub. Delegations from RRC and SRR couldn’t get a visa in time, so there was a lot of free space in Halle 9. Thanks to help of Hans Berg DJ6TJ we’ve got everything for our booth very quickly.
As I already wrote above, Edwin Janke DF5EB had prepared a lot of stands, awards, special QSL-cards, emblems of our club. His golden hands and abilities of designer helped us to show the club’s activity at the exhibition as bright as possible. During all 3 days we were very busy. We had a lot of talks with old and new friends. But mostly there were old friends, who became older and older. This year there were much less visitors than in 1997.
On Saturday 24.06 Otto Schmidt DL1SEC came to pick up us to Muehlacker near Stuttgart. We already were his guests in 1994 before our first visit to Ham Radio. We never forget that big meeting at his home with all radioamateurs – future hosts of our YLs. He, his wife Berta and her sister Rose did all their best for all their guests. Almost the same was this year. On Sunday some of Otto’s friends came to meet us. We were very glad to shake hands with Hermann DL2FK, Wolfram DJ7YJ, Rudi DK6SG and their XYLs and especially with Thomas Jourdan, DO1STJ, 16 years old, P15- Webmaster.
As far as I’ve understood Otto is a soul of DOK P15. His knowledges and experience are really outstanding, his kindness is just unlimited!
We would like to express our cordial gratitude to Otto for UHF FM transceiver TM421 and new hard disk 20.4 Gbyte for our main computer. He presented to our club new akkumulators for our HT and coaxial relay for antenna switch as well.
Next day we were invited to Rudi’s DK6SG home. I was really impressed with Rudi’s workshop. He has many machine tools for any kind of work with metal and wood, a lot of equipment for measurements in the electronics and electrotechnics. As far as I’ve understood, Rudi can construct and make really any device or model, his possibilities and skills are really unlimited as well as his fantasy!
On Tuesday 27.06 we started in 4 persons to Wendelstein close to Nuernberg. On the way we had visited the Museum of Transport and other vehicles. It was GREAT! We have seen a lot of famous steam-engines, airplains, motor-cars etc. There are no right words in order to express our warm gratitude to Berta and Otto Schmidt! Our last day with them was really unforgettable!
It was already evening when we got to our next host family – Erika and Kurt Schuchardt DK5JD. Kurt was the first man, who had invited us to Europe in summer 2000. He did a lot of talks in order to arrange our visit together with Ernst DF3DP. Just due to Kurt we came to Europe this summer.
We had already been in his family in 1997 and we knew them as wonderful people, technically oriented, but loving nature very much. Kurt is a talented engineer- mathematician, an expert in the field of system analysis. He is living far away from any ocean, but his hobby is sailing in the open ocean and he had got all necessary licenses for this. On April 8. 2001 Kurt will be 70 , but his soul is so young, and he is so strong, that one may say that he has about 40 years of age and about 30 years of experience.
As you see, from Dortmund we went just by car together with our hosts. And Kurt told us next morning 28.06, that he will deliver us to Berlin in the evening 30.06 as our back flight is on 02.07 in the early morning, and we’ll start in a half an hour. He asked me whether I have a white shirt with a tie (?!).
We already were in Germany three times, visited many of our friends all over the country. That’s why we thought that we have already seen most interesting places, as every host tried to show us the best in his area, so there will be nothing extraordinary on the way from Nuremberg to Berlin. Before we discussed with Kurt a possibility to visit Dresden, but we couldn’t expect that coming three days will be the most surprising and most memorable days in this summer.
You already have an imagination what a man was our guide. Besides I have to say that Kurt is just a “walking encyclopaedia”, he knows almost everything about everything.
We made some hours video about this trip from northern Bavaria to Berlin and many photos, so we could make a copy for you by your request. It’s almost impossible to describe our impressions on the paper as there will be a lot of !!!!!!!! without any word. So I just list all places and events:
28.06 Frankonian Swiss, the forest of Druides with their “Stonehenge”, 4-stars hotel “Holiday Inn” where we spent 2 nights, Saxonian Swiss.
29.06 The breakfast at the “Swedish table” in 4-stars hotel “Holiday Inn”, Dresden Gallery of Art, the very city of Dresden, Dresden Opera where we had seats in the center of the 7 th row of orchestra (I had to be dressed in a white shirt with a tie), the very opera “Tannheuser” by Wagner.

So we’ve got to Berlin in the late evening and at home of Kurt’s friend Leo DJ4PN we met our next host Dana UA9MPO and her guest-parents Gerda and Eckhard Schulz DF2YE.
Dana is studying at the Humboldt Uni in Berlin and has a room in a students hostel so we had spent two nights in Berlin in her room while she was with Gerda and Eckhard. The last day in Germany we had spent for our own, because Dana, Eckhard and Gerda were very busy. It was just that we want, because it was the only possibility for shopping, we had to buy some souvenirs for our friends and relatives in Omsk. In the early morning on Sunday 2. July Eckhard and Dana had come to bring us to the airport Schoenefeld. At 10:00 MEST our aircraft started his way to Moscow and in two hours we had landed in Sheremetyevo-2. Our trip to Europe was over successfully.
In conclusion we’d like to say out our cordial gratitude to all our hosts and friends whos donations had made this trip possible and invite all of them to visit Omsk at any convenient time. As they say “one good turn deserves another”. And not only by this reason. We would love to see you again and make your stay here in Omsk as nice as our stay there in Europe, our dear friends!!
This August Gunter DH6ARM and Frank DL6HRA had already spent two weeks in Omsk. They may tell you about their impressions. Gunter is about to come again in March 2001. He is very welcome here!
Also Ton PA3FZD and his XYL had a long monthly trip through Russia up to the lake of Baikal. On the way to the West they had spent about two weeks with a family of one of YLs whom he met on air 2 years ago.
This 2000 year was very successful for us . At last we repaired our roof and our room.
It became possible owing to support of our friends. Thank you ever so much again and again for your donations, our dears!
As we planned, two more separate standing antenna systems and two more working places give us a possibility to work simultaneously on 3 different bands.
At present time RZ9MYL almost every time is working near 28450+-30(QRM) or near 24940+-10 using FT250 without PA. Its ant is 4 ele cub quad at 44 meters above the ground. The same mast (21m) is using for 4 ele sloper for 40 meter band.
At the second position we are using your FT747GX and PA with 4x811 tubes. It works near 21285+-30 or 14220+-20. Its ant is 4 ele cub quad at 25 meters above the ground.
Something has happened with a rotor of our third antenna 4 ele cub quad for 17,15 and 12 meterband. Now it is pointed to the Europe and doesn't move. But we already made some QSO on 17 meter band using IC-738. When our PA with GU-74B will be repaired, our signal from that position will be much stronger.
As you probably know in some months there will be a possibility to use AO-40 (Phase 3d) which was launched successfully on 16 th Nov. RZ9MYL could represent Asiatic Russia (perhaps the only station from this country) and be on the air via AO-40 constantly if we could equip the satellite station. The most experienced of our friends in this field is Reinhard Richter DJ1KM, AMSAT-DL member . We asked him to manage this project, but of course he can do nothing without your help. As we here.
In the previous AL-99 I had compared my salary with the price of ink-cartridge. This problem still exist. In February 2000 we had replaced our HP DJ690C. Now we have Lexmark 3200. For my present monthly salary I can buy just 1 cartridge for our new printer. In this year we had no problems with ink thanks to G3GIQ and K5AB. They sent us by post totally 2 colour and 4 black cartridges – just enough for printing for the whole year . Our warm gratitude to Henry and Alan!

Now we are about to reconstruct our site in a modern way. By plan there will be a page “Our friends”. So we ask you to send us your picture with an introducing letter. As well there will be pages “Our YLs about their (pen)friends” and “(pen)friends about our YLs”. So your letters and pictures are very welcome. Preferably via E-mail.
As you know our club station RZ9 M any Y oung L adies belongs to Omsk State teachers’ training university and this station gives a lot of possibilities for its operators to master their language skills. As almost all of them are students of foreign languages faculty, to operate by RZ9MYL is very useful for them. Due to your very kind participation, members of our radioclub may train in speaking during QSOs and in writing when they find pen-friends. But the most important for them is to visit your country, to get to know more close your nature, your culture, your traditions.
This year one more of our members – Teresa was in Germany for the first time in her life due to very kind invitation and sponsorship of Bernd Reisewitz, DK2JW .
Also Natasha had visited for the second time families of DJ8OT and DJ5TU .
As you understand our radioclub is non-profitable organization. At this very hard economic situation in Russia we are working for the future and it is very difficult. But it’s possible!
