Solar flux levels in May slowed down somewhat but Cycle 21 is still
rising at a much better rate than 20 did. At least this fall F2 season
should be the best since 1970. The British and French TV audio are very
probable. The north-south F2 MUF's from here have been holding well
into the mid-30's or better (when magnetic disturbances occur).
The Es season so far has been considerably down from recent years.
So far only one good opening into the VOR-ILS band (May 12).
During the summer some ionospheric modification experiments will be
done using the "ionospheric heater" (2 Megawatt h.f.) at Platteville,CO.
VHF and even UHF frequencies will be affected. Barium releases from
rockets over Nevada in May proved less productive than expected on VHF.
Good aurorae up north in May-June so far. As yet no one has sent any DX
via that.
