Some hints for those who are at the right range (1500 miles or more) from the 33-MHz fire departments (most of which are in the NE US). The best time for ID's comes with the "6 pm test" when just about every one of them gets on. Next best time is the "noon test", followed then by the on the hour ID's (when given). Sometimes they just give the three digits of their call. Early Jan had some instances of New Zealand TV audio (50.75) into Hawaii. An extensive Japan-Australia event occurred on Dec 3 on 6-m as well as Japan-New Zealand. If things keep up, Mar-April n-s F2 should be the best since 1972. ----- Remember this is a DX column and submissions may be edited accordingly, as space and time permit. 73, Pat Signature, 1,689 bytes WA5IYX
