VHF RADIO AUGUST 1972 Glenn Hauser, POB 62, Von Ormy, TX 78073 has recently returned from travels in BC, Canada, using an Astronaut-6 portable. Many mobile-phones were noted on hi-band, even in small communities, generally fitting the 152-MHz directory info. Several studio-transmitter links were also found on hi-band. x-approximate; more precise freqs obtained from station personnel Prince George 172.68 for CKPG (530 kHz), 30 w directional WNW Ft. KCC 482 is the most regular on F2 from the US. The mid-June Magnetic Storm (strongest since March 8, 1970) pretty well messed Es up and shot the South American F2 to levels I haven't seen before in June - if only it'd been in March or April it would have knocked the MUF F2 into the TV channels. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KAQ 606 35.58 Denver, CO KIY 508 35.22 Orlando, FL KCC 482 35.22 Concord, NH KMA 829 35/San Diego, CA KDN 402 35.54 Omaha, NE KSC 644 43.58 Chicago, IL KDN 407 35.22 Colorado Spgs, CO KSC 645 35.58 Chicago, IL KHB 41 162.55 C. A ham-oriented version was scheduled to appear in August CQ Magazine. If solar levels maintain their current pace, there may well be a good bit of low-band VHF F2 still available for the DXers this fall again. Cycle 20 is not dead yet. 73, Pat WA5IYX/5
