The smoothed numbers for a given month are calculated by taking a
thirteen-month average centered on that month. For example,
January 1964 would be the average of the July 1963 thru July 1964
numbers. In my case, the sum of the daily counts for the period
were divided by the actual number of days that they were made.
This ensures that some months with very few days available (often
due to weather factors) would not have a disproportional impact if
just the 13 monthly averages were simply averaged.
The above are recalculations made with QBASIC programs using my raw
data so they may have minor low-order differences with the largely
slide-rule derived (pre-calculator) plots in the original article.
In any event, the "shape" of the Cycle is well maintained.
