H I S T O R Y

 

The Prairie Hills Repeater Association was founded in 1989 by Jim Aho / KB0CIR. From 1989 to 1996 the PHRA was a simple group of hams who supported the Stanley, North Dakota 146.610 repeater. It had a Board of Directors of 5 with KB0CIR being the Chairman of the Board. KB0CIR was appointed as the Club Station Trustee and the repeater carried the Call Sign KB0CIR from 1989 to 1996.

 

The First Annual PHRA Picnic was held in September of 1994 in Stanley. At The Annual Picnic, the PHRA has had a Chinese Auction for the Golden Microphone Traveling Trophy. The first person to receive this trophy was Bill Bosch/WD0EMY from Dickinson, North Dakota.

 

In 1995 the picnic date was moved to June and since has been held the Second Sunday in June at the Wilson Park in Stanley.

 

In 1996 The FCC reinstated the club call sign program. The PHRA board of directors elected to apply for a club call sign. At the 1996 picnic the PHRA was reorganized as a more official and organized club and officers were elected.

 

The First Officers were:

President: John Enander / K0GGH

Vice President: Art Langved / K0CQQ

Secretary: Jim Aho / KB0CIR

Treasurer: Pat Aho / KB0FJM

 

The PHRA received The club call sign KB0YGP on August 20, 1996 and has carried that call sign since.

 

The PHRA has members throughout the area. The first life member was Dean Simmons / N0RDD.

 

The PHRA is looking towards the future and plans on getting 2 meter repeaters put up in Burke County and Renville County as well as a 440 MHz repeater in Mountrail County.
