Welcome to
My shack
On the left you can see the
current picture of my shack. It changes after a minute or so. It’s free… If you
click on it, you’ll get a popup window with streaming video. Works only with
IE, not Netscape!
Because my camera sometimes
moves, I can’t tell what you are seeing right now. Hope it’s not 18+ …
Maybe you see something of my
shack that is being described below. Enjoy!
My shack isn’t so big and
doesn’t contain that much equipment. I used to have more than listed on this
page, but I sold most of it in order to be able to buy other stuff. Most of my
Motorola portables collection is sold out and the only transceivers I am using are
well chosen. I think…
The first thing I want to show you, is the Kenwood
TH-K2ET VHF handheld. It gives 5W and receives very well. It gets good reviews
from various sites. However, it has a fault in the battery consumption. It
drwas quite a current when not in use. Send it back to Kenwood and they’ll fix
it. Or just make sure you have a newer one.
Looking for the mods? www.mods.dk had the mod from my hand! Hope you
enjoy it!
This handheld was the first transceiver I bought when I got my license. It is a Kenwood TH79 and ofcourse fully modified. It goes up to 5 Watts when giving it 12V external power, but it gets quite hot.
This handheld is extremely
good when you need a low power signal at a desired frequency and it has some
great features like DTMF and CTCSS.
The modification is done by
cutting the green wire inside. However, there is another modification where you
have to remove a diode. It works great as long as you don’t remove too much diodes…
It can do crossband repeating, something that is prohibited in The Netherlands.
You can find the modification
at mods.dk.
Finally we can transmit at the HF frequencies with our
C-license. Fortunately I already had this transceiver which works rather good
on these frequencies. It also has 2m inside and 70cm. The FT-817 is now being
used for my Echolink re-repeater. It’s hooked up to my newly mounted antenna an
repeats the local repeater, PI3ZLB at 145.7250 MHz to the internet. I think
it’s great. I already got Brazil to The Netherlands by using Echolink. Just
take a look at my homebrew
part for details about the interface I am using. Software is also
available through a link.
Last but surely not least:
ICOM’s IC-V8000 VHF @ 75Watts
I believe this is the ultimate fuck you ever made. It works just great, produces a much too great bunch of power and has some features I’ve never seen before. Let me summarise:
-
75W power, in 4 steps
-
frontfiring speaker for
optimal performance (in car?)
-
two colour display (green and
amber) for best fit in shack or car
-
standard DTMF mike with more
features on it than directly accessible on the fron (= great)
-
blowing fan in 3 modes: auto
(medium when transmitting and 2min. afterwards, medium continu and high
continu) and if you have a radio that gets hot: try this fan that really cools
down the rig!
-
Computer programmable
All these features make it
the best radio ever. It has more, but just read it at www.icomamerica.com and you’ll see!
In my car I use the Condor-16:. A 2m rig with 5TVO feature
and 10W of power. Using it in a Lancia Delta HPE in combination with a remote
head console makes it a good alternative for the IC-V8000!
