The Baltic DX Group DX-Peditions

to Lithuania

The Baltic DX Group has been going for a number of years now and celebrates its' 6th year in 1998.

It was set up by 3 Lithuanian amateurs - Willy LY2PX, Tadas LY2BAW and Linas LY2BHP with an aim to promote awareness of Lithuania as a new country (1991) and to meet and exchange ideas with foreign radio amateurs and their families.

The group arranges a 'holiday' in Lithuania in July/August and amateurs from all over the world have attended. It is a low cost, very exciting and unusual holiday, but if you like lying by the pool sipping a cocktail, then this is probably not your type of holiday. However, if you enjoy meeting people, travelling in foreign lands and eating strange (but delicious) foods - then this could be the holiday your will long remember. Oh, yes, there is quite a lot of radio operating - if you want that as well...

The BDX group obtain a special call for the event - LY9xBDX where the 'x'is the year in question - I.E. the last one was LY96BDX. Lithuania is now also part of CEPT - so if this applies, you don't need a special licence to operate here (just LY/owncall). Next year will obvoiusly be the last time we can use the LY9xBDX call and the year 2000 will be a really special event - though sending LY00BDX or LY2000BDX will be quite a strain in morse code!
