My HamRadio trip to California USA

In the beginning of April'99, my friend Peter Kuypers PA3BXM and me took a trip to California USA to attend the 50th Northern and Southern California DX association-DX Convention in Fresno.
During our visit to California we enjoyed the hospitality of Tom Orr W6HT, who let us stay at his home for a few days.
Fortunately, Tom owns a very nice HamRadio station and we made many nice qso's while we were there.
I have put some pictures on this page to give you an impression of the things we did and saw in the USA.

Enjoying some actual pile-ups from Russia and Europe in Tom's shack. It doesn't happen to me everyday to get calls from 5R8 and ZK2. I usually spend hours behind my radio to brake the pile-up for guys like that !!

radioroom During our stay we visited the HMS Queen Mary, who lies in the Los Angeles Harbor. On this ship, in the old radio room, there is a HamRadio station that is manned by members of the W6RO ClubStation. Of course we took the oppurtunity to operate from this unique location !!

crazy mobile antanna Here you see an example of how Americans do their mobile operations. I was wondering how this guy keeps his antenna in the right direction while taking turns !! This was one example of the fantastic antennas we saw on cars.
