What the CIA says about Tarawa

The stay at TARAWA, belonging to KIRIBATI was 'special'. No luxury, the unbearable temperature and the pile-ups.
It soon showed that for a lot of hams T30 would be a 'new one'. Thanks to the support of the licencing authority everything went on smoothly. .
Except 50 MHz... Although I monitored 50.110 all the time no usable signals have been heard The SWR of the 3 el beam, which was modified by PA3BQC to fit in one of my suitcases was OK, the ICOM IC-706 MkII-G was perfectly transmitting..
The visit of the young US Peace Corps volonteer Eric, T30ES, was one of the very much appreciated events in this developping country. However not too much time could be lost...4 hours sleep only each night to meet the demand... It was really nice to meet a number of friends in SSTV. As I am a very modeast CW-operator not too much time has been spend on this mode (I'm sorry), but the main objective, to give as many hams a T30 contact had priority.

I'm sure Danny ON4VT has been made happy with this QSO:
Does he always drink beers after a new country in SSTV?
