File:  TORNADO.zip (2692881 bytes)
DL Time (32000 bps): < 23 minutes

Hi Guys:   Had to come home a bit early from our trip to the East Coast...
 Got a call from our son that we had been blessed by the Big Man.

Pix of tornado is the sucker that did us in...  My son took it just as he
was closing the door to the shelter... (was sucking hard on him)  Said it
was like someone running a couple of vaccums - then all went still......
Yes, it sounded like a freight train...

Think I can rebuild feed for dish and come out ok, but HF and VHF antennas
are total loss...

Will keep you posted..

Subj:    K7XQ Single Yagi EME Weekend Report 05-31-2004
Date:   6/1/04 12:03:59 AM Eastern Daylight Time
From:   [email protected] (K7XQ)
To:     [email protected] (Moon-Net)

        There was some great progress made this last week. Having this
last week off from work helped alot for daytime contacts during the work
week.

This week there was some strange EME conditions. There was very deep and
rapid QSB ( 144 sounded like 1296 )and rapidly changing polarities. The
cross polarity yagi made most of these contacts possible. Many of the
contacts I made, I had to receive on one polarity and transmit on the
other.

Here are my results :
144 MHz

May 24th
* UA4AQL Complete Single Yagi QSO # 6 Initial # 77 JT-65
May 26th
* RU1AA Complete Single Yagi QSO # 7 JT-65
May 27th
* DL7UAE Complete Single Yagi QSO # 8 Initial # 78 JT-65
May 28th
* K2TXB Complete Single Yagi QSO # 9 JT-65
* KG6DX Complete Single Yagi QSO # 10 JT-65
May 29th
* W5UN Complete Single Yagi QSO # 11 CW
May 30th
* W7EME Complete Single Yagi QSO # 12 Initial # 79 New state JT-65
* KE7NR Complete Single Yagi QSO # 13 Initial # 80 JT-65
May31st
* VK7MO Complete Single Yagi QSO # 14 Initial # 81 JT-65 first VK EME

I heard K6PF, Bob briefly on CW with his detectable echoes ( I also
heard him direct so knew where his doppler was located to find his EME
signal ). W5UN wiggled my S meter alittle on CW during our QSO. I guess
I should pay attention more to the EME Logger page to try to snag more
CW contacts.

Stations I copied and / or no completion: EA3DXU, N5BLZ, W5UWB, K9MRI
Stations that copied me whom I did not copy : W8BYA, F6FLP

432 MHz: Off the air, preamp blown, need a fresh stock of MGF-1302's
1296 MHz : No activity found this week

My noise problem in the vertical mode is solved. I needed to follow the
directions on the antenna assembly drawing more carefully and make sure
that the feedlines run behind the reflectors of the yagi. It appears
that having the feedline in front of the driven element added noise and
degraded the VSWR alittle. I now have equal noise on both polarities (
except when the antenna is elevated down towards the horizon ).

The great and exciting challenge of EME continues........

Subj:    JA-EME MEETING
Date:   6/3/04 9:56:41 AM Eastern Daylight Time
From:   [email protected]
To:     [email protected]

Dear Joe and all,

We are not successful to contact Paul WA6PY during his stay in Tokyo. It is true that some of
JA EME'ers missed Paul here during his stay in Japan, and I am one.

But I believe Paul and his wife surely enjoyed their trip to Japan even if they had to hustle
all the time.  They walked around Roppongi and Ginza in Tokyo, and went to Kyoto by super
express trains passing by the beautiful and great Mt. Fuji.

We had the 5th National EME Meeting in Niigata, JA0, last weekend.  Twenty-nine EME ops (means
about 60% of all active JA-EME'ers) and three wives got together at a local fishermen's hostel
of a small port on the Japan Sea.

The local hosts of JA0 gangs showed warm hospitality, and some of them took their home-brew
amplifiers.  For example, JA0TJU took his SSPA's, made from the junk TX'es of taxi-radio base
or pager TX stations, re-designed for 2-meter and 70-cm, while JA0EIV took his well-designed
newly-built KW amplifiers using Russian power tubes.

All attendants enjoyed delicious sea-food dinner and wines, taking a big hot spa bath, and night
talk with their old friends, and with new-comer guys.

Special lectures were made by 7K2PDT on JT-65B with his recent experiences on 432 MHz, JH1KRC
on suprious supression by using band-pass and band-ejection filters to meet the strict JA
regulations requiring lower than -60dB's level on UHF bands, and finally JR4AEP showing hundreds
of slides of his newly-built 9-meter dish for the local club station JR4ZZS.  This must be the
largest amateur dish in JA at present.
Each theme was no doubt full of interests and encouraging.

On occasions, some local EME meetings use to have been held somewhere around JA, and the next
national JA-EME meeting will be held in JA1-area after four years, 2008.

This time we missed Paul, and also W5UN who gave a heartful message to the meeting.

We expect not a few DX EME'ers would come and join the meet in 2008. ( And on some other
occasions, too.)

Now my next projects on 5.7G and 10.45G will start soon.

Subj:    47 GHz EME

Hi Joe,
Hi all on the net,

I was blocked last one and half year by big conflict with neghbours. Anyhow
my dish is not dismounted and stay on its place on the roof. Furthermore I
found 47 GHz TWT as a recompensetion for my troubles. It is in my shack now
and I am back to 47 GHz EME project. Unfortunately 24 GHz TWT power supply
is no good for this tube and I need to build a new one. Hope to be able for
echo tests in near future.
