Hi Joe,

Tried three times with 3B9C.  Copied very well first and third times, but he
had no signal from me, even though I was fully QRV with 1500 watts.  2nd time
he could not find the moon. Got this note from 3B9C:

"Yesterday (4/2/04) we had problems tracking the moon due to a storm that
passed over the island for about 2 hours during the sked period. - we have a
small camera on the stacking frame.
Today should be better and we'll be on for 14.00 as planned.

The good news is that we have worked D[L]9KR  on CW and PA3CSG on random JT65B
yesterday. We've also had good copy from G4YTL and OH2DG on JT65 but did not
have time to complete"

My window on the next pass is very short...I may try again, but not sure.

Even though the FT-736 is broken, I am QRV on 70cm using my FT-767 (usually my
receiver) as transmitter and AR5000 for receive, feeding the 10.7 IF into the
767.  This works VERY WELL!  Worked UA3PTW (559/559) right after my attempt
with 3B9C.

I have isolated the 736 problem to the main microprocessor.  I plan to try to
change this myself instead of sending the rig for repair.  Burghardt's is
sending me a replacement chip.  I am trying to find a socket for this chip.  It
is a 64 pin "shrink DIP" (0.07 pin separation).  If anyone knows a source
please let me know.

I have a "NEW" link on my website with many new pictures, of the 222MHz
equipment, 1296 amplifier, and more.

Well looks like VE4MA, Barry was correct. After three failed attempts on
432 using the 10 foot dish ( only 3.0 meter dish at 18 dBd ), it may not
be worth the struggle to continue with this setup so I may revert back
to yagis for 432 ( If I can find the free space on my tiny lot ). I
would like to have a reliable CW level station on 432 which will require
more antenna gain. The 18 dBd was even good enough to complete with
WA4NJP on JT-65B or KL6M on CW on the first attempt !!! I have three 432
M2 9 W.L. yagis and would like to find one more to have a 4 X 9 W.L.
setup. This setup would give me 23 dBd which is far better than 18 dBd
so will look into that in the next several months.

I put the scalar choke back on the VE4MA 1296 feed and configured it so
that the choke edge is flush / even with the opening of the feedhorn.
The focal distance is 37 inches and I am measuring about 16 dB of sun
noise.

Tonight I tried a 1296 CW sked with VA7MM. He only runs a 3.0 meter dish
and 200 watts at the feed. He was the smallest station I have ever heard
on the band. Mark was peaking 10 dB S/N easy copy. We did not complete
because I only run @ 100 watts at the feed and he was only giving me a
"T" report. If we would have had a hour QSO, I am sure we would have
completed.

I also heard some very loud JT-65 signals on 1296.040. One of those
stations was peaking well over 20 dB over the noise. I couldn't get WSJT
to sync probably because there was too much doppler / drift on my end to
find out who those stations were.

I will be QRV on 1296 Apr 5th UTC starting at 0400 UTC. The moon is
rapidly dropping declination but improving towards perigee.
