Hello Joe and Al

As you know there has been considerable discussion on the Moon-Net regarding the choice
of weekends for the ARRL EME contest and to muddy the waters, I through in the Microwave
EME contest.

I think Mike Owen has kinda closed Moon-Net for a bit to let people cool off but I did
just send in the following proposal which I hope he lets go to the reflector. Could you
guys please put the following in the Net Notes and in the next newsletter??

Joel W5ZN says we need to have things ready for QST by June but I think we can do it.

I appreciate your help

best Regards

Al W5LUA

Hello EMEers

Based on the comments I have seen posted on Moon-Net it appears that the October 9/10
and the December 4/5 weekends are good potential candidates for the traditional ARRL
EME Contest in 2004. If that is the way the vote goes, then I would like to suggest the
following.

1. Since it appears that most 2 meter operators would like to have the 2 weekend contest,
then I propose for 2004 that we have a Microwave EME contest on a third weekend specifically
October 30/31. The Microwave EME contest would start at 13 cm and encompass all bands higher
in frequency. The higher declination would give more moon time and the additional path loss
would only amount to a dB or so. If the vote that Lionel is taking happens to favor the
October 30/31 weekend for the traditional EME contest then we can pick another date for
the third weekend.

2. I would then be interested in knowing what you folks think about limiting the Oct 9/10
and December 4/5 weekends to all bands up through 23 cm leaving the third weekend for 13 cm
and higher.

Please comment to me on both items.

I plan to submit this same proposal to K2UYH to gain further comments from the rest of the
70 cm and up crowd via the 432 and Above newsletter.

As many of you have pointed out, it is all about increasing activity on all amateur
frequencies. I for one am looking forward to getting back on 2 meter EME and this may be
the year for me to do it. And, I also hope to see some of you 2 meter guys think about
getting on 3 cm or 23 cm EME.

The ARRL is receptive to making changes to the EME contest that are of
interest to the EME community, and shares our intent of increasing
activity.

Please let me know how you feel about these proposed changes and I will forward them on
to the league.

Thanks and 73
