	On n'est pas fixé sur l'époque de la construction du premier château et du donjon de Bois-de-Lessines. Le château actuel fut bâti vers 1630 sur les fondations du premier château. Aujourd'hui, une drève bordée de marronniers conduit à l'entrée de la cour d'honneur. Au dessus de la porte se trouve une pierre bleue rectangulaire portant les armes des de Cottrel avec la date 1630 entourée d'une bande de laurier. On y lit : «C'est mon destin Jenne de Cottrel 1630». La vieille forteresse fut restaurée par la célèbre famille des de Cottrel sur les plans des châteaux français de l'époque. On y arrive par un pont en pierre lancé au-dessus d'un large fossé. Les anciennes fondations subsistent et datent du XVème S. La façade, simple mais imposante est percée d'une vingtaine de fenêtres très hautes. Le toit est couvert d'ardoises. Deux tourelles flanquées de meurtrières et de petites lucarnes placées sur les extrémités lui donnent de la majesté. Le château est encore habité de nos jours par la famille d'Yve de Bavay. (texte R. Meunier) One is not fixed on the period of the construction of the first castle of the Bois-de-Lessines donjon. The current castle was built around 1630 on the foundations of the first castle. Today, a big avenue broadsided of chestnut trees leads to the entry of the main courtyard. Above the door a rectangular blue stone is carrying the weapons of Cottrel with the date 1630 surrounded of a laurel band. One reads: "It is my destiny Jenne de Cottrel 1630". The old fortress was restored by the famous family de Cottrel as regards the French castles of the epoch. One arrives there by a bridge out of stone launched above a broad ditch. The old foundations remain and date from the XV C. The frontage, simple but imposing is bored of about twenty very high windows. The roof is covered with slates. Two flanked turrets of fatal and of small attic windows placed on the ends give it of majesty. The castle is still inhabitted nowadays by the family of Yve de Bavay. (text R. 	La fête du "Cayoteu" est née d'un .... pari et commémore l'activité des carrières de porphyre de ma ville natale, Lessines Quelques semaines avant la kermesse St-Roch 1976, messieurs Jean-Marie Wilmus et Lionel Vandewalle (mon papa), s'affairaient, comme il est de coutume, à passer dans le quartier pour récolter des fonds. Arrivés au numéro 4 de la Chaussée Gabrielle Richet, madame Anna De Clercq, regrettait le temps où, dans un passé lointain, Lessines comptait des Géants, en l'occurence Le Cayoteu et Mademoiselle Saint-Roch. Ni une ni deux, nos deux comparses prirent pari avec madame De Clercq que pour l'an prochain, le quartier Saint-Roch retrouverait une fête comme on n'en avait plus vu depuis bien longtemps La fin 1976 et surtout le premier semestre 1977 furent consacrés à embaucher des groupes pour le cortège, rechercher et restaurer des géants (certains se trouvaient dans un état plus que pitoyable), créer des chars, confectionner des costumes pour les figurants, ... Des listes de souscriptions furent lancées afin de collecter les fonds nécessaires à cet élan populaire. Le travail titanesque fut récompensé. En effet, le 21 août 1977, lorsque les anciens carriers reprirent leur matériel pour montrer tout leur savoir-faire, et surtout lorsque le cortège "El Cayoteu" déambula pour la première fois dans les rues du quartier Saint-Roch, c'est toute la population lessinoise qui se retrouva unie autour des géants. Le plus grand des deux géants sur la photo représentent Adrien, l'ouvrier carrier, "El Cayoteu" comme l'on dit en dialecte local (wallon). Le Cayoteu pèse 106 kilos pour une hauteur de 4m26. Il est porté par un seul homme Le plus petit géant de la photos est Mademoiselle Saint Roch (du nom du Saint patron des ouvrier carriers - nom de l'église et du quartier de la ville de Lessines où ont lieu ces festivités) Mademoiselle Saint-Roch pèse 90 kilos pour une hauteur de 3m65. A few weeks before the district fair St-Roch 1976, Jean-Marie Wilmus and Lionel Vandewalle (my daddy), were themselves busy as it is of habit, to pass in the district to collect funds. Arrived at the number 4 of the Chaussée Gabrielle Richet, Mrs Anna De Clercq seemed to regret the time when, in a remote past, Lessines counted Giants, namely the Cayoteu and Miss Saint-Roch. The two comparses took bet with Mrs De Clercq whom for next year, the Saint-Roch district would find again the festival. The end of 1976 and especially the first six-month period of 1977 were devoted to engage groups for the procession, to seek and restore giants (some were in a state more than pitiful), create chars, make costumes for the figurants… Of the lists of subscriptions were started in order to collect the funds necessary for this popular dash. This Mammoth work was rewarded. Indeed, on 21 August 1977, when the former quarrymen took up again their equipment to show all the people their know-how, and especially when the procession "El Cayoteu" sauntered for the first time in the streets of the Saint-Roch district, it is all the citizens of Lessines who became again unified by the giants The largest one of both giants on the picture represents Adrien, the stone quarryman, "El Cayoteu" as one says in the local dialect (Walloon). The Cayoteu weighs 106 kilos for a 4m26 height. It is carried by only one man. The smallest giant of the picture is Miss Saint Roch (of the name of the Saint of the stone quarrymen - name of the church and of the district of the town of Lessines where these festivities take place).
