Starting place for the fox hunt

Our club was asked to participate in a scoutmeeting on March 24th. Other radioclubs would be there too so activities were split up. We would organize a foxhunt. The location was a beautiful forrest area between Leuven and Brussels.

We moved to a less crowded part of the forrest where we could prepare the foxhunting material.

Hidden Transmitter

We carefully hid the foxes and mounted the antenna 2 meter above the ground so it would not be too difficult.

Testing if the foxes were audible at the startingpoint proved to be less straightforward than anticipated.

Breefing

The scouts were ‘all ears’ in order to know how they would be able to find the hidden transmitters. They needed to know the direction  the beams point and how to adjust the receivers.

ON6TC explaining
It's that 'a' way...

And they’re off

Follow that signal
that way??

Where’s the signal coming from..??

I'm lost again
I'm sure it's here somewhere!

I’m getting closer..... now where is that fox.... ?????

After 2 groups tried their best at foxhunting we took dismantled the small yagi antennas and put everything back in the box. The end of a nice day out in nature. We had fun and it seems the scouts had fun too. A few of them asked for contact information and who knows.. we might meet them again as licensed amateurs...
