THIS IS MY GOOD OLD TIMES PAGE
..
Like many radio-hams I was bitten by the radio bug at the age of 12 .  That was
back in +/- 1950. My first realization was a so called " Poste à Galéne " Something
I  found in a book " Jongens en Wetenschap " at the library in my home place.
It took  several months before the "dam thing" was working but after  after a couple weeks I heard music in the war surplus headset.
My family looked at me with quite a  new regard. And I could read in their eyes.
" He isn't has dumm as we thought for a while.
My dream was to become a " Marconist " So I went to the only school in Belgium
who had radio-telegraphic courses. So I became a marconist ( sparks - Funke etc )
When I quit the seaman job I automatically wanted to stay in touch with the radio's
 so I became a radio-amateur . Below is a list of the radio-equipment I once owned.
.
War surplus equipment
My very first transceiver.... A Canadian SET- 19.
I bought it for 1100 Belgian francs back in +/- 1956
At first it didn't work later I could repair it and I
made quite some qso's with it on the 40 meter band
in CW...
The T-1154 aircraft transmitter. I bought it at the
old market in Brussels for 500 Belgian Francs. Just
next to the radio-telegraphic school. I remember that
it was so heavy that I could barely tild it up and bring
it from the rail station to my home. It never worked
I gave it away in  the end...it was a useless investment.
The R-107 receiver... at first I got one in loan from Willy
ON4RT. When he wanted the receiver back I bought one
in Antwerp. It was a very good receiver for that time and
had a very good " AM quality " which was the amateur mode
QSO's  toke place. Later SSB came and by
adding a BFO signal it could receive SSB signals...
I have fine memories of the receiver.
Home made KIT equipment
GELOSO  very popular among the radio - amateurs. This is
the receiver the G-216 which was bought as a kit. Kits
where very popular in those days with HEATK IT as one
of the major suppliers. It was a good AM/CW receiver
Nothing like the receivers today but it was "home-made"
and we where very proud to have it... I  made half of my
DXCC with  Geloso equipment. Apart of this I also made
many home-made equipment....some good some bad....
 but those where the days.............
. GELOSO another radio-amateur transmitter kit. Very
popular at that time. The VFO was not very stable and
I build a separate VFO in another box to keep it from the
finals heat... I must have worked many years with
GELOSO equipment. There was no SSB so I sold it for
an replaced it by an SSB Transmitter.
Brand new equipment
From here onwards I stopped making equipment  myself
I had not enough measuring equipment and had no intention
in buying it. So I sold all the measuring equipment and
bought a STAR - 600 receiver. I have used it for many
years and was quite happy with it. I sold it because it had
no good selectivity which became necessary at that time.
The TRIO TS-511 was a transceiver for the Japanese market only.
I bought it directly in Tokyo. It could work "split" something new those days. I kept it many years and gave it to the local radio club who used it for field-days.
The STANDARD SRC806C................
MY very first 2 meter mobile transceiver. It was X-tal
controlled and you had to buy new x-tals if you wanted
more channels. I went to Yugoslavia for vacation and
when if wanted to leave the country going towards Italy.
It was taken out of the car by the Yugoslav customs.
They brought me to court and I had to pay 45.000 dinar
and lost the transceiver. I will never forgive them.....!!!!!!!!!!
The YAESU FT-221 - 2 meter all mode transceiver. I used
it for DX on 2 meter and I kept it for many years...It was
a good transceiver.
The YAESU FT-902DM all mode H.F tranceiver. I used
it for DX and DX....I worked lots of new countries with it
It was a new " line" at that time together with the
 speaker and the amplifier.
The YAESU FT-2100Z the amplifier teamed with the
FT-902DM above. It was rated for 600 watts but it
delivered about 400 watts on the 20 meter band and
only 150 watts on 10 meter. Full 600 watts where
delivered on the 80 and 40 meter band. It helped me
very much in working more DXCC countries.
The KENWOOD TS-50 + AT-50 auto antenna tuner.
A very good piece of equipment mainly used for Pactor
communications. I toke it with me at vacation and served
me well. It also was used for a hf/Pactor<> uhf/packet
gateway. It never let me down.
The IC-821 satellite transceiver. A very good piece of
equipment it worked well on the pacsats as well on the
AO-40 satellite
The AMERITRON AL-1200 hf-amplifier - a real work
horse who delivered easy 800 watts on all bands. I used
in my pactor- 1  gateway Being one of the ONLY
gateways around at that time I needed sometimes some
more push in order not to be push away from the
frequency It went to the Philips /Eindhoven fieldday
club. I'm sure there happy with it !
The YAESU FT-736R satellite transceiver was equipped
for 6 and 2 meter and also for 70 and 23 cm. I let it
rebuild for the reception of 9600 and 76.800 baud by
Symek (Germany ) This transceiver has served me more
many years for my full automatic satellite station which
did run around the clock without intervention from me.
A very good tranceiver !
The ALPHA 87A power amplifier the king under the
amplifiers...full automatic...you do not touch it...it's fast
and delivers maximum legal power without any problem
hours and hours long in contests.
I sold it in order to make room for the Winlink PMBO
also lost interest in DX-ing but maeby that will come
back ????
The KENWOOD TS-950SDX line together with the
station monitor and speaker made a nice set.
I sold it because the Yaesu FT-1000 was simply better.
It went to Malaysia.. I hope it's doing well over there too.
Equipment still in use in today's shack
The Kenwood TM-V7A " das blauwe wunder " I use it in my
car  to work with local friends and via repeaters. I am
sure that it can do more than that...but now it's installed
and I keep it there until I change cars
The KENWOOD TM-733 " the shacks workhorse " for
many years. At first I used it for 9.600 baud packet
which was later replaced by a TEKK transceiver ( still
in use today. and later on by an 23 cm - 76.800 baud
TCP/IP mode. Although packet is running out replaced
by the internet. the transceiver is still useful as the
local chat transceiver.
The YAESU FT-1000DL + Yaesu - Timewave DSP-Y
DSP filtering. Fully equipped with all the additional
filters and software - 200 Watts out. One of the best
HF transceiver ever. I will probably replace it in the not
so far future. However I can't find something really
better than this one... we are looking towards new
equipment to surprise me....
The YAESU FT-847 hf + 6 meter + 2 meter and 70 cm.
Is the satellite receiver in use at the time of this writing
Working AO-40 without amplifiers
YAESU FT-2000 the successor of the FT-1000 who is still in
use here on my 80 meter Winlink port. There is impressive
improvement on the reception side ! Fabulous....
Ordered the MTU unit to connect an LCD screen.
It is too early to comment on this equipment.... I will know
more in a couple months.

The ICOM IC-718 Transceiver - 4 of them in use on the
Winlink. It's small robust , very few knobs and whistles
and bells. Has everything it needs 100 Watt - DSP filter
all mode - The learning cyclus is only one hour. It also stays
cool even after hours transmission. And important it's
rather cheap - I am a happy IC-718 user !
I have replaced 2 X ICOM IC-718 by 2 ICOM IC-7200
They have very sharp IF electronic DSP filters.
Build for 24/24 Hours arround the clock traffic traffic.
A real improvement to my Winlink RMS.
The SCS-PTC-2 PRO controller. Although not a transceiver
I want to end with this fine peace of equipment. The very
best for the last 15 years. Giving all kind of digital modulation.
Running pactor -2 and pactor 3 plus - AIRMAIL - Winlink
- GAMMA one advise ! get one !
In the mean time I have 4 of them in use for  my Winlink/RMS station.

I have replaced the SCS pactor-3 modems by 4 piece SCS
Pactor-4 Dragon 7800. Doubling the speed up to more than
41 KB/minut. Downwards compatible it's a very nice piece
of equipment running very well. I'm quite happy with it
