about station [ ok1cf ]

Hello!

My name is Karel Matoušek and I'm living in the north-west of Bohemia, in the city Most. I was born in November 5 th, 1954. I am married with Zuzana and have two daughter´s Tereza (11) and Zuzana (5).

My hobby

is amateur radio. Having been licensed since the mid 72 with most of my operating time spent on Morse code (CW) working contests and DX-ing although I do enjoy operating RTTY and occasionally SSB.

The radio

first invited my attention at the age of 13. I started off by listening to the short wave broadcast bands and than I discovered the amateur bands. In 1970 I got my first callsign issued for SWL. I was OK1-18450. I learnt Morse code with a simple key and improved my knowledge of code practice.

I had got my first transmitting licence OL4AQA in 1972 six month before reaching my 18 years. After that I got my second transmitting licence OK1JCW. I was on the air that time regular. My first entry in transmitting contest was local one taken every Monday. The local contests on top band were a great experience for me, because I often had the whole range of operating practice.

Over the years, CW has become my favorite mode and in January 2000 I become FOC (First Class C.W. Operators´ Club) member # 1729.

In 1984 shortened my call to OK1CF.

At that time, my first transmitter was home built with 4 tubes QRP and first receiver was Torn 4 b regenerative. The antenna was a very simple long wire.

I like DX ing (need to complete only North Korea) and I am keen on making equipment and gears makes me enjoyable this hobby, (till 1982 I had worked on home brew solid state TRCV CW/SSB with digital readout) and experimenting on antennas.

The gear

I use today is consisted of an KENWOOD TS930S. It drives DRAKE L4B amplifier. Outside, I have home brew 3 element monobanders on 20 and 15 o separated towers at 30 meters on the roof of the high building where I live. On 10 meters I have only two element HB9CV above the 15 m beam. On LF I use a simple long wire 90 meters long and 30 m high, which is hanged between two high buildings. On WARC I have also simple wire loops antennas at 30 m. I am located in downtown Most with a good view to all sides. I have a positive approach to contesting. I make best use of the space I have, but it is evident that the QTH has not the required features to became a good contesting station.

Because

like contesting, I am spending a lot of my time operaiting from the club OK1KSO (OK5W), my local.
