Traverse in the 3rd Rope Length
The third ropelength starts with a short traverse
to the left. In 1959 I was still waiting for my Austrian friend and at the
week-end got help from Cortina: with Orazio Apollonio we climbed to the belaying
point. From there I tried to find a way upwards, which was very difficult, and I
could progress only for 5 metres or so. In the image an unknown climber has made
a belay at the end of the traverse, so the rope runs better when the leader is
more distant. The original place was farther to the right,
where the chain is also today.
Traversata nella terza lunghezza
La terza lunghezza comincia con una traversata corta verso sinistra e poi va
direttamente su. In 1959 stavo aspettando il mio amico austriaco ed alla fine
settimana ho ottenuto l'aiuto da Cortina: con Orazio Apollonio ci siamo
arrampicati al posto di sicurezza. Di là ho provato a trovare una possibilità di
continuare, che era molto difficile e potrei progredire soltanto per 5 metri o
così. Nell'immagine uno scalatore sconosciuto ha fatto un posto di sicurezza
all'estremità della prima traversata. Così la corda corre meglio quando il primo
di cordata ha avanzato di più. Il posto originale era più sulla destra, dove
anche la catena è oggi.
