Recognizing the evolutionary path |
1960 - 1970 Operating from a DX location with the station that happened to be available. Typically a resident operator (CX2CO era) or occasionally visiting a friend. |
1970 Traveling to a good DX spot with a tri-band beam and/or wire antennas single-handed. Typical time investment one-week (ZD3X era). |
1980 Teaming up with a resident amateur and building up the site together for contest application. Typical residential area limitations (9Y4VT era). |
1990 Investing in a specific contesting site at a DX location. Enjoying the freedom to do what it took to make the best of the situation on hand. Mostly single handed. (CT3BH/HC8A era). |
2000 A "Formula One" approach where the operator would only concentrate on driving (i.e. operating) a specially built high-tech contest station at an optimum DX location, with a support team doing all other work. Minimal limitations on time/budget/resources. |
