Pr4Win overview

Pr4Win (Packet Radio for Windows) is a KISS-Mode Packet Radio Terminal program. After more than a two years of development Pr4Win is now ready as Version 2.10.

Pr4Win is completely written using MS Visual-C 4.2 for the 32 bit version and MS Visual-C 1.52 for the 16 bit version.

Pr4Win needs about 1 MB Hard disc and at least a 25 Mhz 80386 PC with Windows 3.1 for the 16 bit version. For the 32 bit version Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 on an least a 100 Mhz PC with at least 16 MB RAM is necessary.

Pr4Win also needs a KISS-Mode-able TNC like PK232, TNC2, TNC3, MFJ1296, DSP... Pr4Win will not work with mini modems like Baycom mini modem.

• Pr4Win (32-Bit version) runs on Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 (3.51)
• Pr4Win allows PR Connects via TNCs, direct serial line connects, modem connects and TCP/IP connects.
• Pr4Win is not a TCP/IP Software like KA9Q and his successors, but can handle AX25 connects in a local area TCP/IP network. One computer with a TNC and a transceiver is enough to allow PR from all computers in your local net.
• Pr4Win could work as a TCP/IP wormhole or 600 Ohm wormhole but this was not a design goal. I only had LANs in my mind.
• Configurable surface. A german and a english surface is included in the package.
• Background - and Welcome bitmap can be changed as desired.
• Pr4Win supports MDI (microsoft Multiple Document Interface) or X-Windows mode (with the /NOMDI switch).
• Pr4Win is operated by ICON-buttons, menues or keyboard, blinking Icons are signalizing changed data....
• A maximum of 16 logical ports. Each logical port is connected to a serial line (a TNC, a modem or direct to another computer) or a TCP/IP Connection.
• Computer to computer connects via TCP/IP connects in a LAN or WAN using WINSOCK interface.
• A port manager. Every logical port and channel in configured interactively. (modem connects, TCP/IP connects are set up from port manager).
• Frame length up to 1500 Bytes. Attention ! Most digis supports only up to 256 bytes.
• You can configure Pr4Win to accept any combinations of SSIDs you like for incoming calls.
• Automatic frame length change with cross channel (cross port) connects.
• A maximum of 8 Channels each Port, TNC's with up to 8 modems are supported (E.g. TNC3s).
• A maximum of 8 (16) open connects at the same time.
• A maximum of 8 (16) open spy windows at the same time.
• Displays text in different colors for each station in a spy window.
• Level 2 digipeating for each port/channel. Cross channel L2 digipeating (not allowed in free version).
• Automatic DAMA-Slave mode. Entered lines are collected up to maximum frame length while waiting for DAMA polls.
• Welcome Goodby, Info and Help texts with symbolic variables for call, name, last connect...
• Configurable sounds are played on startup and termination of Pr4win and when other stations are connecting your station.
• Every connect in a separate window. Recommended screen resolution at least 800*600 pixels.
