ARES Defined
Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), a volunteer group of FCC licensed amateur radio operators,
providing emergency support communications for Orange County in the event of local disasters and regional mutual aid.
This is the national amateur radio emergency preparedness organization sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).
Training activities include emergency communication drills and related public service events in
Orange County
as well as inter-county ARES training sessions.
Membership in the ARRL is not required for amateur radio operator to be an ARES member.
