Oklahoma is rich in Amateur Radio History. As one of Oklahoma's oldest Amateur Radio organizations, The Oklahoma City AutoPatch Association or OCAPA as it is more commonly referred to, has been at the forefront of the hobby. Our members were some of the first to respond when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was bombed in 1995. Currently, our members play a major role in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon which is a major fund raiser for the bombing memorial. In May of 1999, much of Central Oklahoma was devastated by numerous strong tornadoes. Some of our members sustained damage to their homes and some lost them entirely. The OCAPA membership came together to help members and their community. Again in 2003, spring storms brought tornadoes to Oklahoma City. On May 8th the cities of Moore, Midwest City, Choctaw, and South Oklahoma City were struck. Before the storms dissipated, The Salvation Army Communication Facility was manned and operating with members of OCAPA. Other members were in the field passing critical damage reports. On the evening of May 9th another tornado swept across western Oklahoma City and Bethany. As the operations from the tornado the night before was winding down, OCAPA members swung back into action and worked through the night providing communication to the affected area. OCAPA is dedicated to the advancement of the amateur radio hobby. Each year members participate in the Boy Scouts of America's Jamboree on the Air (JOTA). This event gives boy scouts a chance to talk via radio to other boy scouts from around the country and the world. It gives us a chance to share a part of our hobby. You are invited to attend any of our monthly meetings. They are held on the 3d Tuesday of each month at the Salvation Army Community Center on SE 44th West of Bryant. Check the Club Meetings link for a map to the meeting Thank you for visiting the OCAPA website feel free take a tour.
