Net Control Station "Reference Text"

Verify the frequency is not in use before calling the net.

Opening the net:

Calling the New York State Phone Traffic and Emergency Net (call this twice).
This is __________ ( callsign- USE PHONETICS! ), my name is _____________ and my location is _________County. This is a directed net which meets daily at 6 p.m. local time on or near this frequency. Do not break this net unless you have emergency or priority traffic or information important to net operations. When checking in give your call. If you traffic say only the word traffic after your call. If you must leave the net, you are encouraged to check out with Net control.

This is ________ (callsign- USE PHONETICS!) and the NYSPTEN.

Stations with traffic, please call now. (If no traffic proceed to area call up).

Section call up is as follows:
Mon. O.O.S. (out of state);
Tues.- Western;
Wed.-Northern;
Thur.-Eastern;
Fri.-N.L.I.

Latecomers any section
Note: weekends, no section callup.

When doing informals try to have a callup after two or three informals.

It has been asked by many members that Net Controls use phonetics when starting the net and performing additional call ups.

 Please try to do so. Thanks.

Closing the Net:

This has been a regular session of the NYSPTEN. I would like to thank all stations participating in this evening's session. This is __________(callsign) signing the net and it's member's clear at ______(time) and returning the frequency to other amateur use.

GUIDELINES FOR NET CONTROL STATIONS

While the net provides fellowship for all, its primary function is to facilitate the passing of

traffic. To do this professionally it is essential that the net control station run the net

efficiently. The following guidelines and comments should be helpful in the pursuit of our primary function.

1. Follow the preamble

2. Avoid redundancies and ramblings

3. Do not identify your station and the name of the net for each section of the net which

you call up. The area call up should be completed in no more than 3 minutes or so

under normal conditions.

4. Try to use as few words as possible to accomplish your NCS job; no one is perfect

or expected to be, but we can try.

5. Expect stations to follow standard traffic handling procedures.

6. Be polite-do not criticize anyone on the net on how they behave as net members; it’s

unproductive. You should however comment to stations if they do not follow the

preamble-just be positive in doing it.

No net control station is expected to become a robot unable to let his or her personality

shine through. We all approach things differently, but we can do so and still run a very

efficient net.
