Reflector - Rules

General Rules
Ten Commandments of Email

General rules:

bulletPostings should relate generally to ham radio, ham support systems (such as computers), club activities and business, and topics that are in line with the scientific and electronic topics normally discussed at club meetings.

bulletPlease do not send attachments (attached files) to the reflector. This includes word processing documents, programs, URL shortcuts, v-cards, zipped files, and any other type of attachment. Instead send just an announcement that you can send the file direct to anyone who asks for it.

bulletPlease do not forward jokes, "cute" graphics, virus rumors/hoaxes, or chain letters. If you find something you think is great, send it directly to a few friends for feedback.

bulletPlease do not use HTML or RTF (rich text format) in your postings to the QTH reflector. See How To Turn Off HTML in your email program.  You can use HTML in postings to the Yahoo Groups reflector, however.

bulletPlease do not flame (attack and insult) other members of the mailing list.

bulletThe occasional, simple FOR SALE or WANTED notice is OK.

bulletPlease do not post commercial messages.

bulletPlease "be nice" to one another and use the same language and courtesies that you would use on the air!

10 Commandments of E-mail

Along those lines, here's an entertaining but helpful list of courtesies -- author unknown.

bulletThou shalt include a clear and specific subject line.
bulletThou shalt edit any quoted text down to the minimum thou needest.
bulletThou shalt read thine own message thrice before thou sendest it.
bulletThou shalt ponder how thy recipient might react to thy message.
bulletThou shalt check thy spelling and thy grammar.
bulletThou shalt not curse, flame, spam or USE ALL CAPS.
bulletThou shalt not forward any chain letter or virus warning.
bulletThou shalt not use e-mail for any illegal or unethical purpose.
bulletThou shalt not rely on the privacy of e-mail, especially from work.
bulletWhen in doubt, thou shalt save thy message overnight and reread it in the light of the dawn.

And, the "Golden Rule" of E-Mail

bulletThat which thou findest hateful to receive, sendest thou not unto others."

horizontal rule
