Emergency Communication Certification is an opportunity to provide the public service community with trained Amateur Radio operators who will have a consistent level of expertise in Emergency Communication. You can become certified in one of the following ways:
- Take an online course, complete all required activities, and pass all applicable assessments. There are registration fees that partially offset the operating costs and professional development expense of the Certification and Continuing Education Program. ARRL members contribute to this program through their ARRL dues, and so earn discounted registration fees. ARRL members register for the Emergency Communications online course at $40, and nonmembers at $70. To register for this course online, click here.
- Take the live classroom course, complete all required activities, and pass all applicable assessments. The cost of the live classroom course registration is expected to be in the same range as the online course, but will depend to some extent on expenses incurred in presenting the course. To look for local classrooms available, click here. The Level I (ECC-001) classroom course will begin on January 12, 2002, 10A.M. (1500Z) in the Lucas County EMA, 2144 Monroe Street, Toledo, OH (see information below). If you are interested in taking this course, you must register no later than 10A.M. (1500Z) December 28, 2001.
- You can read ARECC manual, then take the assessments from Certification Examiners and pass based on self-study and experience in Amateur Radio emergency communications. The cost of examination is $10 only. To look for upcoming exams in your local area, click here. There will be examinations in Toledo beginning February 9, 2001 (unofficial yet). These exams will be conducted together with FCC License exams. Check for future updates on this website.
Currently I am working on a live classroom course that will cover the Level I of the Emergency Communication Certification. The schedule for this course is ready (see below.) If you will not be able to attend all sessions, you may still particiapate in this course studying some chapters of the manual yourself, and contacting to me over e-mail or local net. There will be $40 fess for this course payable to ARRL ($70 for nonmembers). These fees include the cost of the manual and examination.
