06/12/09 The back-up battery that powers all the gear in the Nicolai shack during power interruptions. The voltage is reported using packet telemetry.
06/12/09 One of the original radio "decorations" on the Nicolai site is this pair of Telephone Company microwave reflectors. These "Passive Repeaters" were used all over the Pacific Northwest to bounce microwave communications links over mountain tops.
06/12/09 The view to the west from the Nicolai site.
Lower Megler gate, after some timber harvesting on the west side of the road.
The road up to the Megler site. It really is a beautiful drive.
A little farther up the hill, the road rises steeply. It can be touchy coming down when it is muddy. I really enjoy having a reason to go into the woods.
The PUD replacing the 50-year old power line that feeds the Megler site. Their equipment really filled up the road those days, but they did a nice job of letting us around.
The antenna tower at the Megler site is crowded. This is a "High-RF" site.
9/21/09 Kevin and Ed adding a plastic-pipe support strut to the Olympia repeater antenna. This should keep it from moving around in the wind or hitting the tower structure.
9/21/09 Ed, K7WAT, at the top finishes securing the strut while Kevin, K7KID, below him re-aligns the antenna, which was leaning a degree or two in a twisted clamp.
9/21/09 Frank, NM7R, eye-balling vertical while Doyle, N7UJK, snaps the pictures.
9/21/09 Ed, trying to tie a knot in the snubbing line while Kevin heads back up to help lower the gear.
