Our regular meeting would be October 9. Because that is the area's Bean Festival, the club voted not to have a meeting. After some consideration, it was decided to call a special meeting for
October 2, a week before the fiesta, so we could plan what we would do. Only those interested in participating in the festival will attend this meeting, though it is actually open to all.
The bean fiesta is one of the biggest events here in the Valley. Last year we appeared using the "club" communications van (actually belongs to Daniel, KD7UFS. Shortly after that the van's engine
lost oil pressure so it has not been used since. We appeared recently at the Chamber Of Commerce Fair, using a tarp, some tables and chairs, and we had fun. We will be using a similar setup
for the bean festival, but we hope to actually have a radio or two on the air. Certainly VHF, and with any luck, some HF. The antenna may be a problem, as our space may be limited. But hams
are ingenious, right? Watch this space for more news, as we get closer to the date. As a footnote, this October 2 meeting will be our first in our newly chosen restaurant, called My
Restaurant. We are leaving the TA Truck Stop for a number of reasons, and have been eyeing other places for meetings. Since we all like a good breakfast, it had to be in a restaurant. There
aren't many choices. Stay Tuned. |
