Biographical Information

Greetings and welcome to my Amateur Radio web page. My name is Danny Pease, NG9R and I live with my wife Gay, KA9VIM, in Camp Point, IL (EN40la). I have been licensed since 1981 and have held the previous calls of KA9KAL and KC9OA. I am getting back into ham radio after several years of absence while family matters and other hobbies took over.

Personal Interests

I have a variety of interests and hobbies that cover work, family, church and play. I have worked as a test technician for a paging infrastructure company and currently am working on becoming a Quality Engineer.

My wife and I have been married long enough to have our two daughters grown and out of the house now, so that leaves a little more time for other activities (not to mention money). My wife and I are both active in our local church and one of our daughters is about to graduate Central Christain College of the Bible with a degree in Cross Cultural Missions and wants to be a missionary in Ukraine.

My hobbies include Amateur radio, competitive archery, bowhunting and drag racing. I enjoy are variety of aspects in ham radio and am always looking for something new to try. My latest fad is MFSK and it is very impressive to use under poor band conditions. I have a great interest in weak signal VHF/UHF and homebrewing antennas. I also enjoy weather spotting, traffic handling, contesting, home brew projects and rag chewing. I am a member of American Society for Quality, Society of Midwest Contesters, Western Illinois Amateur Radio Club and the ARRL.

Current Projects

N9JF contest station
I am presently brainstorming with Jim, N9JF, about his antenna farm at to help develop it into a reasonable contest station. I am limited to the antennas I can get by with at home, so I hope to be able to pool my efforts with Jim to put together an operating station for 160 through 1296. We hope to add another tower (or two) this summer to Jim's station with additional HF antennas and some more VHF/UHF antennas and hardware. Jim has a limited amount of time he can give to his hobby due to his dairy farm, so he has a lot of projects planned that need the man power to make them reality. This is a perfect place for me to try my antenna ideas out and not have to deal with the outraged neighbors!

VHF/UHF Rover station
Since I am limited in the use of antennas at home, I hope to work some VHF/UHF contests as a rover, moving from grid to grid in the mid west to give QSO's to those that are able to hear me. I have most of the hardware in my possesion but still need to sort it all out and put it to the test. Please look for my weak signals from EN40 and surrounding grids this summer.

1972 Plymouth 'Cuda
Another dream since I was a teenager was to own a Plymouth Barracuda. A few years back I took possession of what can only be described as a basket case 1972 'Cuda. I have put some effort into it and was rewarded by making several passes down some of the local drag strips last summer. It still has a long way to go before I want to brag on it, but it is a labor of love and I hope to have it completed sometime before I retire.
