North Cheshire Radio Club first NW club to use internet 70cms link

At the recently held AGM of the North Cheshire Radio Club, a demonstration was held of an exciting new method of communicating in real-time with other countries using amateur radio. This technology utilised the 70 centimetre amateur radio band, on which it is usually only possible for short-range communication of around 10 miles. But thanks to a new internet link, members of the North Cheshire Radio Club were able to communicate with other amateur radio operators in the United States, namely Florida and Connecticut. This is believed to be the first time such a link has been used at a club in the North West. This new technology promises to create many new opportunities in amateur radio, as it has never before been this easy to communicate globally.
