Respectfully Submitted: Brian E. Bayus, N1KC Treasurer
The secretary's report was accepted as submitted by George Vincent K3GV.
A motion was made by Brian Bayus N1KC and seconded by Dave Hammond WC4B to increase the dues to $25 effective October 1, 2008 and $72 for a three (3) year renewal. After minimal discussion, the motion passed unanimously.
It was also decided to increase the contribution to hosts from $150 to $175 for meetings held at host houses.
Dave Collingham K3LP offered a suite of rooms that he has reserved at the Crowne Plaza in Dayton,Ohio for the use of NCDXA for a hospitality suite on Friday night during the Dayton Hamfest. The offer was graciously accepted and Roger Stephens K5VRX will coordinate the effort.
Brian Bayus N1KC mentioned that membership certificates are available and if anyone still needs one, to get in touch with him.
Fred Laun K3ZO provided a short report on the activities of the W3 QSL Bureau and it appears to be operating smoothly. Fred stated the new sorters have been recruited for J, P and H calls.
John Kanode N4MM reported that the controversy over Kosovo is still ongoing and resolution is needed between the State Department Sovereign Territory List and the Independent States of the World List.
There were no new members to be voted in.
It was decided that the club would not make a contribution to the VK9X Christmas Island DXpedition to be held in July 2008. However, a motion was made by Brian Bayus N1KC and seconded by Roger Stephens K5VRX to make a contribution of $100 to the Glorioso Island DXpedition. It was suggested that members make individual contributions as well.
A request from the Antietam Radio Association for a contribution to support the VA QSO Party was denied. A similar request was denied in the past to support the MD QSO Party. While QSO parties are worthwhile, support for QSO parties is not in keeping with the DX concept that NCDXA supports.
Members were reminded of the Manassas Hamfest which will be held on June 8th this year.
The next meeting will be held in association with W3LPL's Annual Open House on 21 June. The date is changed this year. It normally is the weekend before Field Day which has always been the Saturday of Father's Day weekend which would have been the 14th. HOWEVER, Frank realized that every other year, Father's Day weekend is the weekend between the ARRL VHF Contest and ARRL Field Day. But... not this year Many PVRC members are very active in the June VHF contest (June 14-15), so he can't have the open house that weekend! THEREFORE, the real date...correct date of the W3LPL Open House is Saturday, June 21st. To quote Frank, "I'm looking forward to NCDXA joining us again this year. 73! Frank W3LPL" As in the past, if Frank refuses to accept our contribution for the drinks, a donation in his name will be made to a future major DXpedition.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:00PM at which time Dave Collinham K3LP gave an interesting presentation on the N8S Swains Island DXpedtion in 2007. The presentation also included two DVD videos as well.
Respectfully submitted, George Vincent, K3GV Secretary
