Lower Columbia Amateur Radio Association
Minutes of the 7/19/06 Membership Meeting

Call to Order:
Vice President Mike called the meeting to order at 7:30pm (pdt)
There were 11 members in attendance.

Pledge of Allegiance was made by all.

Guests:
None.

Reading of the Minutes:
Minutes of 6/21/06 were approved as read; Minutes of 7/5/06 were approved with amendments.

Officer’s Reports—Treasurer:
Bob KB7ADO distributed the report tonight. A printout of investments was available—they are all up! Board of Directors will give us an increase of .0725. Motion was made, and carried to accept the Report.

Correspondence:
Bob has the bank statement and investment statement from Smith Barney.

Discussion ensued about the equipment insurance. Cost is now $188 for $12,500 worth of coverage annually (cost is per $100). Premium is due 9/1/06. Antennas aren’t covered under this type of insurance. Topic will be revisited at next meeting.

Bob sent acknowledgements to 3 of the 4 people who sent in donations in the name of Frank Hammersmith (SK).

Randy NU7D got a QSL card from Field Day, and Mike AD7HN will determine how to log it.

Board of Directors’ Report:
None.

Old Business:
Yesterday the 18th, Bob submitted the Field Day information electronically. He also called ARRL about our Special Service Club status, and the new expiration date in 2007 has been posted.

On the “30” repeater, it appears Rob has not been to Woodland recently. <Discussion followed>

On the “260” repeater a discussion arose on how to rid the ‘clipping’ that’s been occurring.

Connie KB7AYY and Randy have received copies of certificates from Judi KD7GZR and Ray NB7Y for having completed NIMS training. Randy will find out dates of other groups who are holding classes in case some members would like to attend. He announced we only have books for the ICS-100 class, not the 700. These courses are to familiarize us with the Incident Command System and how groups fit together on a federal level.

Randy has the Fair schedule tonight for people to sign up to volunteer with the COMM Van and represent DEM. There’ll be no admission to the Fair, so on passes to worry about. Connie and Judi introduced the SKYWARN information that will be available in our booth.

“National Night Out” is 8/1/06 from 5pm until 9pm in Longview in the 100 block of 16th for those who want to participate.

On revisiting the licensing topic, we can find out from Ray NB7Y what information he has for giving the classes and possibly have a sign-up list at the Fair, or a list to find out who would be interested in taking a class from us.

Revisiting the plaque for Silent Key members’ topic, suggested wording could include “contributions were received in memory of the following Silent Keys”.  Other wording can be discussed.

New Business:
Brian KJ7OX asked if we should send in the IC-736 radio for repair because the pre-amp section is out. Bob suggested calling ICOM to find out what’s involved with time and labor. Brian will call ICOM.

Randy received 3 Pagers at the recent SAR Council meeting. <Discussion followed> Connie and Randy have a list tonight of Frank Hammersmith’s (SK) equipment that hasn’t sold yet.

Good Of The Order:
Bob would like a few members to stay after the meeting tonight to discuss the Short Tower.

Nathan KBØSZY and Brian worked the FISTS this weekend, had 22 contacts, and 600+ QSL points. They worked it as QRP. Band conditions were bad.

Butch KD7DCM and family were at Rim Rock Lake recently and heard a Horse Endurance Race going on the North side of the Lake which was very interesting to listen to, a Jeep jamboree, and a motorcycle activity—all using VHF frequencies.

Motion made to adjourn. Majority carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:35pm (pdt).

Respectfully submitted,

Judi—KD7GZR, Secretary
