Lower Columbia Amateur Radio Association
Minutes of the 6/7/06 Membership Meeting

Call to Order:
President Wally called the meeting to order at 7:30pm (pdt)
There were 15 in attendance.

Pledge of Allegiance was made by all.

Guests: Matt Greeley and Tyson Simonson.

Reading of the Minutes: Minutes of 5/17 were approved with one addition.

Officer’s Reports—Treasurer:  Bob, KB7ADO distributed the Treasurer’s Report. Motion to approve the Report carried.

Correspondence:
Bob has the PUD bill in the amount of $61.06—going down—and a letter explaining the water rate increase. We received dues from Dr. and Mrs. Nelson, and the bank statement.
Judi, KD7GZR received the Corporation paperwork requiring a $10 check for the annual renewal fee.

Board of Directors’ Report: No report.

Old Business: For members who want personal information to show on the password-protected portion of the LCARA website, contact Judi.

Rob, WA7ROB has adjusted the sensitivity on the repeater. It’s now putting out 100W with 80W going to the antenna. The repeater was built up by Rob using a donated chassis. He supplied all the other parts to put it back on the air and tuned it. It’s the same machine that’s in Woodland. It also has encode/decode. Let Rob know if any other improvements are needed. <Discussion>

Brian, KJ7OX revisited the 220 subject—it’s here and ready for purchase. Randy, NU7D has the certificate for it, and all it needs are the Crystals, which would take about 3 weeks to make and cost $30-40. Total system cost would be $1000, including the antenna. It was indicated that we couldn’t buy a system like this on the outside market for this price. <Discussion followed> Motion was made to purchase the system and carried by a show of hands.

Connie, KB7AYY announced that June Simmons donated money in Marty’s name and asked if a plaque would be made in his name. <Discussion>

Discussion ensued about mowing the big field’s grass, and Randy will ask Ed, N7CFA to contact Dave Hamblet about mowing it.

Extra volunteers were not needed at the Trojan Implosion stated Randy. I did a little radio work, and a deputy ran the COMM van. Members were there to help set up and ensure the COMM van was operational. Thanks to all who offered. <Discussion>

New Business: Randy says the Rizad is taking application for equipment. We could apply for a Pager or 2, possibly a 2m Repeater, and 2 or 3 radios for the ELT team to match what the new narrowband police radios will be.

Good Of The Order: Rob brought up a discussion on the Clark County group, and that they receive the old radio equipment coming down from the County. Randy will talk to the new DEM director about the equipment that’s available, and I’m also keeping abreast of any new radios that would be installed in the COMM van.

Bob indicated that when the Clubhouse was being cleaned John Ellingson, K7OSK bought the Collins radio for $50. Bob also needs to meet with the Officers, Trustee, and Board of Directors after the meeting tonight because the Special Service Club is coming up for renewal and there is paperwork to be done.

Mike, AD7HN needs a list of people, before we adjourn tonight, who will be attending Field Day. Plan is to show up in the morning and have everyone here by 9:00am to see who will be doing what. We’ll operate either as 3F or 4F. I’ll need Captains for the different areas such as CW, PSK-31, and maybe 2 phone stations. We’ll be using the grid—we don’t have to be on emergency power. BBQ will be available, and we’ll operate from the inside. If anyone’s interested in T-shirts, let me know. <Discussion followed including Steve, K7SDH offering to cook breakfast for everyone—if someone brings the utensils>

Brian brought a magazine article entitled “Antenna of the Universe” if anyone wants to read it. It’s from Harper’s Magazine, May 2006.

Randy indicated that the donated 440 repeater’s coordination is about to expire.

Rob said there’s an abandoned repeater site on Mt. Pleasant, and Bob explained that it’s Day Wireless’s and not something we could have access to. <Discussion>

Meeting adjourned 8:25pm

Respectfully submitted,

Judi—KD7GZR
Secretary
