Lower Columbia Amateur Radio Association
Minutes of the January 18, 2006 Minutes

Call to Order:
President Wally, WM7U, called the meeting to order at 7:30pm (pst) with enough 2006 paid members for a quorum.

Pledge of Allegiance:
The Pledge of Allegiance was made by all.

Introduction of Guests:
Seth Hart, N7QGI and his brother Gabe Hart, K7GDH. Seth has a 220 repeater with 1W output; needs Amp and Antenna; would like to get it on the air.

Treasurer’s Report:
Bob, KB7ADO:  I distributed it tonight. Balance is down slightly with our investments.

Correspondence:
Bob, KB7ADO:  I have a flyer announcing the Mike and Key Electronics Show and Flea Market in Puyallup on March 2nd, Saturday.
No Board of Directors’ correspondence.

Old Business:
Bob, KB7ADO:  Repair of doorframe is needed as NB7Y, Ray, had brought up last year. Should we pursue this now or wait for better weather?

Brian, KJ7OX, & Wally, W7MU
:  Suggest waiting for Bob’s contacts to call him back about repairs, or get an estimate.

Rob, WA7ROB:  Generator has to be started manually. You have to throw the main breaker. Those who want to learn the correct procedure let me know and I’ll show you how.

Brian, KJ7OX: The Heathkit SB200 Amp works but needs Power Supply help. What should we spend to have it fixed?

Bob, KB7ADO:  Can go $200 without approval. <Discussion on ordering parts or an upgrade kit and getting on the air>

Stu, K7WF:  What are the results of the Rotor?

Brian, KJ7OX:  Sending Unit in bottom of rotator has to be fixed. <Discussion on 2m Antenna configurations and costs involved; North & South fixed antennas for emergency use; smart use of tower real estate; should have another Tower Committee meeting; match Rotor failure to TV camera>

New Business:
Rob, WA7ROB:  Brackets were ordered last year (2005), and we have them for mounting a beam antenna half-way up the Tower, to have a second beam available. Replacing the Rotor all at once is better than having it sent out for repair and being without one. <Discussion on Rotator, wiring, mounting, costs, contacting Yaesu, past Rotor performance and warranty>

Stu, K7WF:  Motion to buy identical Rotor and Controller. [Bob, KB7ADO, looked up old invoice with previous costs: $1,015.95 in November 2002]
Motion carried by majority.

Good of the Order:
Tere:  I priced new 6-foot tables for $50 each. They’re hard, white plastic with fold-out legs. The Rizad Bldg. has some old tables constructed of heavy metal with wood tops from the SAR Council. I’ll check into getting them and some new chairs.

Butch, KD7DCM:  Do we have a follow-up for our 2006 Goals?

Mike, AD7HN:  I have a list; maybe we should start from scratch; take everything out, paint, repair and put it back. Also, status of the 220 will be looked at later. <Discussion followed>

Ed, N7CFA:  On Feb. 11 is the “FIST Sprint On the Air”, a 4-hour event. Go online for more info to www.fists.org   W7DG is a FIST member, and any of you can operate from the Clubhouse.

Stu, K7WF:  In the past, Mike and Steve Hart were really good tower climbers. I’m going to New Zealand for 4 weeks.

Rob, WA7ROB:  Issue with the “26” repeater: squealing noise. I have crystals and will install them in the GE machine repeater. Will take out the old one and put in the new one. I want to get the “26” done before the “30”.

Brian, KJ7OX:  I worked 3 or 4 FISTS before the meeting tonight. Lots of activity on 40m, also a lot of QRM.

Tere:  Do we have any Coffeestops planned for this year? <Research shows Sept. 20-21-22 at Toutle River Northbound from 8:00am to 8:00pm; and December 20-21-22 at Toutle River Northbound>

Bob, KB7ADO:  The Space Station called “CQ Washington” the other day on 2m. I’ll have to find out the QSL information.

Meeting adjourned at 8:32pm (pst).

Respectfully submitted,
Judi—KD7GZR
Secretary
