Welcome to my Ham Radio website. My name is Norm Cramer and this site is dedicated to my Ham Radio Activities. For more information about Ham Radio see the ARRL web site.

I was licensed in April 1978 at the age of 14. My first callsign was WD2AEM. I kept that callsign throughout my first 20+ years of Ham Radio. When I upgraded to extra in January 2000, I decided to shorten my call. Since all of the 1x2's with my initials in area 7 (I lived in AZ at the time) were gone, I selected a 2x1 that started with my initials.

My radio activity has gone in waves with my initial activity as a teen focused on HF CW mainly 15M. When I went to college, I stuck to 2M FM. After college, I went into the US Navy as a submarine officer. I ended up in Charleston SC on the USS TECUMSEH SSBN-628(GOLD). My Ham activity picked up again in SC due to a little more time and a great group of hams in TARC. My activity was mainly HF and RS-10 Sat.

After the Navy, I went to the Dallas TX area to work for Texas Instruments(TI). My activity there was minimal due to starting a family. TI was bought by Raytheon, and Raytheon moved my job to Tucson, AZ. In Tucson, I went to a hamfest and saw a guy work AO-27 with an HT and an Arrow antenna. I had to do this, I sold some old gear, bought a FT-51RHP dualband HT and got on AO-27. I then got a smaller HF rig (Yaesu FT-840) to get on HF and RS-13. I recently added an Alinco DX-70T to my collection. The DX-70T is hooked up in the car and now I get on HF during my commute to and from work. I currently lurk on 10m around 28.5 and on 20m around 14.2. I am also on HF from my home QTH sporadically.
