Since getting on AO-40, I have wanted to reduce my level of white noise. At the Dayton Hamvention in 2002, I played with and listened to a ClearSpeech noise reduction unit from AmCom. I already had a Timewave DSP-599zx and was only midly impressed by the units random noise reduction performance. I didn't think the ClearSpeech could do much better.

Well, it did. It blew my socks off. I could not believe the improvement in signal intelligibility and comfort. So now I bought one for use in my station and mainly for AO-40 and weak signal work.

See for yourself. The wavefile below was recorded on February 22 at 19:45 or so GMT from AO-40. It is an acutal QSO. My antenna is a BBQ dish with an AIDC 3033 downconverter. The receiver is a Yaesu FT-817. The first 20 seconds is with the DSP on. The next 20 seconds, it is off (you'll hear a click when it's turned on and off). The last 20 seconds has the DSP back on. See what you think.
