Registrations at the normal price will be available and at the door (of course, hotel rooms will be subject to availability). The DCC begins on Friday, September 20 and runs through Sunday, September 22. Full details are available at http://www.tapr.org/tapr/html/Fdccconf.html. A couple of updates on the program: 1. We're very happy that Anthony R. Curtis, Ph.D, K3RXK, will be our speaker at the DCC banquet. Tony's presentation will be titled "40 Years of Amateur Radio In Space: Where We've Been, Where We Are, and Where We're Going." 2. We've confirmed that the Packet Radio Users Group (PRUG) of Tokyo, Japan will be sponsoring a reception and talking about their latest activities Friday evening. PRUG is really on the cutting edge of digital radio, and their presentations are always fascinating. 3. We are also fortunate to have three great activities that focus on the hardware and soldering-iron side of amateur radio: * On Saturday, Jay Craswell, W0VNE, will do an introductory program on using CirCAD, a powerful schematic drawing/PCB layout program that's available (in a slightly limited form) for ham use at no cost. * Also on Saturday, Ten-Tec's Gary Barbour, AC4DL, will be talking about Software Defined Radio development at Ten-Tec. * Our "Sunday Seminar" will feature Dave Newkirk, W9VES, providing a tutorial on using the Serenade SV RF design software; this is another professional package with a free version available for ham use. We hope to see you there! I misunderstood the relationship of the various versions. There is a highly discounted version of the $995 Circad program available at $295. This $295 version is available to Licensed Ham/Amateur Radio Operators only. Check out http://dover.5u.com/ for more info on the Ham Discount. There is a demo version of Circad downloadable at http://www.holophase.com; although that version can be used to draw small schematics and PCBs, it's not a replacement for the full program. I want to apologize to Holophase and to Jay Craswell for improperly describing the versions of Circad, and to you for any confusion this may have caused. 73, John N8UR President, TAPR jra@febo.com -- n8ur@tapr.org --- You are currently subscribed to ss as: lyris.ss@tapr.org To unsubscribe send a blank email to leave-ss-6751T@lists.tapr.org From bounce-ss-6751@lists.tapr.org Thu Sep 13 16:34:56 2001 Received: from lists.tapr.org (lists.tapr.org [204.17.217.24]) by tapr.org (8.9.3/8.9.3/1.13) with SMTP id QAA13416 for ; Thu, 13 Sep 2001 16:34:53 -0500 (CDT) Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 17:24:05 -0400 From: John Ackermann N8UR To: "TAPR Spread Spectrum Special Interest Group" Subject: [ss] Digital Communications Conference Still On Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline List-Unsubscribe: List-Software: Lyris Server version 3.0 List-Subscribe: List-Owner: X-List-Host: Tucson Amateur Packet Radio Reply-To: "TAPR Spread Spectrum Special Interest Group" X-Message-Id: <34153349.1000401844@WUSJA129861-8HP> Sender: bounce-ss-6751@lists.tapr.org Precedence: bulk With the tragic events of this week, we've had to seriously consider whether it was still appropriate or feasible to hold the Digital Communications Conference next weekend (Sept. 20-22) in Cincinnati. Although we grieve with the whole world for the losses so many have suffered, we believe it's important to show that terrorism will not succeed in making us change our way of life. So, the DCC will go on. We realize that in light of the circumstances, some folks who have already registered may feel they cannot attend. If that is the case, please contact the TAPR office (tapr@tapr.org) and we will arrange a refund of your registration fee. If you are traveling to the DCC, remember that things may still be somewhat disrupted next week, and increased security precautions will certainly cause some airport delays. Check with your airline early and often to make sure they haven't changed your plans for you. We realize that this year's DCC may well be smaller, and will certainly be more somber, than in past years. But we think that going ahead is the right thing to do, and we hope that you agree. 73, John ---- John Ackermann N8UR jra@febo.com http://www.febo.com President, TAPR n8ur@tapr.org http://www.tapr.org --- You are currently subscribed to ss as: lyris.ss@tapr.org To unsubscribe send a blank email to leave-ss-6751T@lists.tapr.org From bounce-ss-6751@lists.tapr.org Tue Sep 18 18:44:27 2001 Received: from lists.tapr.org (lists.tapr.org [204.17.217.24]) by tapr.org (8.9.3/8.9.3/1.13) with SMTP id SAA27233 for ; Tue, 18 Sep 2001 18:44:24 -0500 (CDT) Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2001 19:32:34 -0400 From: "John R.
