Only had about an hour to operate this time out, but I did make some significant station improvements. I can now operate 6 & 2 while in motion. I'm using a K0FF copper square for 6, and a 4 element CC yagi for 2 with rotor. This puts the top yagi about 3' above the cab of my Ford Ranger. These contacts were all made with less than 10 watts! I'm using a Kenwood TR9000 for 2m, and as the IF for my Ten-Tec Transverter for 6.

I did call several stations who couldn't hear me, but I worked about everyone I could hear. The next step is amps! I have a 6 meter 100 watt amp nearly complete, and hope to have more power on 2 meters before the June contest. I also have a small 6 meter beam I can put up when stopped. So even though I never done much in this contest, I'm already making plans for June. The biggest problem is usually setting aside the time for the contest. This contest, for example, family obligations prevented me from spending much time on the radio. I spent most of Saturday afternoon building a snow man with my almost 4 year old daughter. Some things are just more important than ham radio:-) And with a few inches of fresh snow, we just had to put it to good use!

The station improvements continue. Being stuck with using a Ford Ranger for a rover vehicle has it's limitations, but I'm learning ways to deal with it. Having antennas I can use while mobile is a big plus. I'll have photos on The Rover Resource Page soon.
