The best way to get involved in Amateur Radio is to go to a local club and find a mentor or Elmer as we call them in "Ham Speak." Often that's not possible and people need to learn on their own. One thing that troublesome is the basic electronics part of this radio business. One good online resource are the ARRL Articles on Basic Electronics for the new Ham. This series of 19 articles, all available as PDF files, will teach you a lot about basic electronics and things you need to know to pass your first exam.
