Using the SGC SG-239 Smartuner with the Yaesu FT-817
Many people report that they have trouble getting the SGC SG-239 Smartuner to tune reliably
with the Yaesu FT-817 radio. The SG-239 requires a minimum of 1.5 Watts to tune. If the
SWR is high the FT-817 folds back it's power output so quickly that the tuner will not
always tune. The following tech note on the SGC web site describes a solution.
Using the FT-817 with the SG-239 Autotuner.
Note that the new values you program into your FT-817 will vary from one radio to
another. I arrived at the new values for my radio by increasing the stock settings
one unit at a time until tuning worked with my tuner and antenna system.
Caution! This is not a Yaesu approved change and will no doubt void any
warranty you may have on the radio.
