Emanuel James married Martha A. GARDNER, F, daughter of Ewel GARDNER, M & Margaret BARNHART, F. Born on February 2, 1835 in Scott County, Virginia. Martha A. died in Scott County, Virginia, on May 10, 1927; she was 92.

They had the following children:
i. Elbert Samuel, M. Born on January 22, 1854. Elbert Samuel died in Abilene, Jones Co., TX, on July 9, 1939; he was 85.
On July 18, 1872 when Elbert Samuel was 18, he married Susan HOBBS, F.

iii. Reuben, M. Born in 1859. Reuben died in Cove Creek, Scott Co., VA, on September 4, 1862; he was 3.
iv. George W., M. Born on October 15, 1861 in Cove Creek, Scott Co., VA. George W. died in Cove Creek, Scott Co., VA, on September 10, 1862; he was <1.
v. Squire E., M. Born on May 27, 1862. Squire E. died in 1946; he was 83.
On May 16, 1890 when Squire E. was 27, he married Ellen LAUGHLIN, F.
