Hi...My name is Carl Ray Motsinger.  I am married (38 years) with 4 children. My age is 59. I got my first call WD9GZB in November 1977 and was on the air in 15 minutes. My first contact was Don WD4ALY in Virginia. The transmitter was an old EICO with 1 6146B tube - CW Only. The receiver was a Cobra 139 SSB CB radio. I used a 5 crystal convertor to receive the ham bands. That experience has led me to use CB radios for many more purposes other than talking around my little corner of the universe. This site is devoted to K9SIP who started me off to be an electronic technician in the wonderful field of RF.

Just got up and running with PK31. I really like this mode. So simple and it works great all the time. No fancy parameters........just fun!

I am not as active as I'd like to be. A neck injury ( I was the only one injured ) in an auto accident in 3/02 resulted in complete paralysis for a short time. I am still recuperating and am told I will make an almost complete recovery. We'll see. It has been 9 months and I have a piece to go. My recovery has been quickened by my Lord Jesus. I am very thankful.

Lately I've been on 80 and 40 and made my first 20 M contact just a few weeks ago. I think it's time to think about better antennas than dipoles. Maybe a loop. I've got the tuners to make a matcher for an 80 meter loop. I'm gonna try it anyway. After that its an attempt to build a 20 M beam.

Gear - I have a couple of rigs on the air. An FT101E and a Kenwood TS-430S. I use the 101 most of the time. That is due to the fact that I like tuning a radio. The 430 is a great little radio and mine works very good.

Interests - I'm presently building several tuners, digital displays and a few wattmeters. I make my own inductors and capacitors. Capacitors from PCBoard and inductors from #12 wire. I'm using a new technique that implements a 40 position switch for the coil instead of the more common roller inductor.

More about me? - NCL2000 Amp - Old Designs - New stuff...
