Mike, I couldn't agree with you more. Morse is the romance of radio. And, in my case, DX is the magic of radio - to be able to talk around the world with no connecting wires is a fantastic thing. It helps that I enjoy meeting internationals, too, I guess.
Keep up the good work. Hope to wrk you on the air someday. I do mosty cw traffic work here in Mississippi - need to do more ragchew qso's. Am busy writing music, too, which cuts into my operating time. Just got my 55' tower and tribander up - ready to DX away.

I've read your comments and response to the FCC's new rules. If you could change the new CW requirement, what speed would you make it? I suppose I just don't understand what all the fuss is over. Isn't the amateur license a privledge given by the government at will? So what's any difference about the new 5 WPM requirement (and most importantly, from their viewpoint, after all they hold all the cards)? The FCC has just exercised it's authority to do what they want at will. Government rules are like the weather, just wait a while and they'll change again!!! Problem is though, you'll never know in advance if they'll (the rules) be better or worse......
By the way you have a great page! I to have a Drake C Line as well as other goodies.

Very interesting site. Glad I stumbled upon it. There is a lot to learn here. Am relatively new to collecting Drakes, although have owned an R-4A, T-4X, AC-3 and MS4 since they were new. Now have the "B" and "C" lines with MS-4's and AC-4's, a L-4B, 3 MN-2Ks an MN-4, a W-4, a C-4 and a couple of converters for which I am looking for a cabinet. Thanks again for a great site. 73, W4AWM

Link through e-mail received from FISTS. MY FISTS # is 2504. Seems like code is all I use anymore. I just can't see HAM radio with out the ART. But that's what this nation is taking away from our young and old alike. Any ability or gift to apprentice an ART or Craft. Now it requires a Degree or Certification that cost a fortune. That only a few lucky ones can afford to be ISO9000 complient. PHoowee!!!

Nice looking site Mike. I was going to comment on your Drake line during our qso, but forgot. I still have a Ranger II here that is in pretty good shape. It has a minor problem and I need to get it back on line. I sware I will have it going by the next Class Radio Exchange! When is that by the way? I need motivating. I work almost all CW here and have for 41 years now. Am 58 years old and work for the Raytheon company here in town. I have a subscription to ELECTRIC RADIO MAGAZINE, I suppose you do to. It is a fun to read. They have a lot of old gear that I have used. The only Drake gear I've had was a 2C rcvr. I eventually traded that on a Collins 75S-1, and then I built my own 40M CW rcvr, a superhet, from a Doug DeMaw article -- but you wouldn't like it because it is solid state. However, it was based on an old 8 tube rcvr, the HBR-8 by Ted Crosby that was published in QST back in about 1965. I read it while pounding brass at sea in the Navy. I knew I had to build that rig, but by the time I got out and back into civilian life and tech school I didn't have a lot of time or money so when I found the article in the ARRL's Solid State Design book, I built it right then and there. Well, hope to run into you on the air again Mike. By the way, I am currently learning AMERICAN MORSE, and am up to about 5 WPM. If you can use that code I want to make a sked with you when I get fast enough to carry on a normal conversation. CUL es 73, Larry
