OK so those familiar with my old pages -- this is rather cheesy by comparison. However, I had to throw something out here quickly, and seeing I don't have much time -- here it is. It will get better with time ... and the check's in the mail.

HISTORY:
First licensed in 1977, Novice, as
WD9HGV in Berwyn, IL.  Upgraded to General in 1978, and subsequently requested a call change, hence, N9ALV.  Why I never upgraded to Extra, at that time, is a long story, but it shows you that you never should wait for something that is good! Inactive since 1984, but am slowly getting back on the air.
QTH: Apartment complex, so my main interests, at the present time, are getting back on the HF airwaves in stealth mode.  The apartment is 2nd floor, which makes it easier for height but antenna-wise, there is a very minimal porch.  This will indeed be interesting, although, I will most likely start out, for HF at least, with a Slinky (link to this coming).
RIGS: Kenwood TS-520S with DG-5 freq display; HW-101 (rarely used), and I also have an old Heath 2036A rig. Seeing the equip is so old, I can only get out on the "old" HF bands; 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, and also 2m FM. Lots of QSOs waiting out there, I just need the antenna. I love CW using a straight key and/or the Vibroplex "Bug". I've lost my Heathkit keyer, and am missing my original MC-50 microphone that came with the '520. However, I do have an old Astatic D-104 Silver Eagle, rewired for the '520. But right now I have limited transmit capabilities on 10m using an old, modified CB whip with a tuner (shudder -- it's cheap and something I have), and using low power. Hey, it gets me out! I have no problem with exclusive CW, although there are a Net or two, that I'd like to check in at.
OP MODES: CW! Back in my old days, was hitting 90% copy at 40wpm (based on copying W1AW code bulletins. I didn't know what Farnsworth was back then). As of the creation of this page (Jan '03) I was surprised that I could still get a solid 100% at 13wpm (letters, numbers, prosigns basic punctuation), 96% at 18wpm, but it all goes down from there. However, due to some great software and freeware (links to be added but do a Google search for MORSECAT and Morse Academy ) I'm getting the speed back up. Due to QTH I'm looking forward to that first CW QSO !
NEAR FUTURE: QRP is definitely in the plans via kits or something refurbished from a Ham fest.

Enjoy = Tnx for stopping by, es vy 73

So what is this all about? Well, perhaps it's for Hams born at midnight. Or ... perhaps it's for Hams who like to operate at midnight. Or ... perhaps it has something to do with Midnight in the Desert and some guy whose call is W6OBB ...  or could it?
