N8XE's Tower Project
|
I decided to finally put a tower up. I chose to use a Glen Martin roof mounted tower to keep costs down. I chose the 17.5' model for the cost and safety margin. The antenna I am using is the Hexbeam HX5Bi 5-Band antenna. Mounting plans are available here (this link will open the plan in a new window). Please feel free to use this plan to assist you to get your permit.. NOTE: You will probably need a certified civil engineer to approve this plan!! I created this plan to get my approval. These are large pictures so it may take some time to download. Hexbeam laying on the roof ready to be installed. Hexbeam being pulled up the tower. Here I am standing next to the tower ready to install the Hexbeam. Maneuvering the Hexbeam into place. Man! It's freezing... Hexbeam in place on tower... ain't that pretty? Wish my neighbors thought so. Another view. The XYL looking very cold (and asking... "How much was this again?") Here is a picture of the tower from my deck. The tower is actually mounted on my garage from the side of my house. This is Dave who helped me install the tower. He is currently studying for his license. (Cannot really see him which I think he prefers anyway!) View directly beneath two of the tower legs. You can see the bolts and washers attached to the 7" 3/8" bolts. The 2x8s are mounted to the trusses with 3" screws. Also, there is a 4x6 that is between the plywood and the 2x8. The bolts extend through both the 2x8 and the 4x6. View of the other two legs. As you can see the tower rests next to the house. Here is a view of the 2x8s extended across more trusses. The 2x8s are attached to 4 sets of trusses.
