This is the Kenwood TM-742 FM Tri-band radio. Kenwood makes a very nice remote mounting kit for it (much better than does Icom for their 706). The interface cable routes under the dash towards the rear of the vehicle to connect to the radio. The microphone is also remoted. It's interface jack is located on the driver's side of the shifter console. The mike hanger is attached to the lower dash panel with some double-sided self adhesive tape. The antenna is a tri-band Diamond SG-9600, mounted opposite of the Jeep's AM/FM antenna. When going out for a weekend jaunt, the little 36" Diamond tri-bander is replaced with it's 5'+ big brother. This gives a bit more gain and better odds of hitting the repeaters when in less than optimal situations. |
