Welcome to our Home Page.  My name is Conrad and that is my call sign is N7EN.  My better half is Diane and her call sign is N7TNP.   I have been a licensed Ham since 1978.   I enjoy using most of the available modes and frequencies that are available to me.  If HAM radio is something you might be interested in, please go to my links page to get more information.

I live in the state of Arizona which is known for its hot summers and warm winters.  In fact many people come to Arizona in the winter from the northern US.  They are known here as Snow Birds.  Oh yes,  we have rattlesnakes here in our deserts.  Look out for the one on your right! asnaked.gif (51797 bytes)

earth4.gif (56036 bytes) I spend a lot of time on the HF (High Frequency) portion of the frequency spectrum.  I use two antennas right now to cover the 9 bands.  The photo on the right is a Butternut HF2V vertical with the 160 meter coil on it.  It is attached to a horse rail fence and is grounded to it.  It is a very nice ground plane as the fence is over 1000 feet long.  The other antenna on the right is a Cushcraft R-5 vertical.  It is up about 20 feet from the ground.   Click on the photos to see a full size picture of each of the antennas.  The radio I am using right now is the Kenwood TS-50S.  I am working on contacting 100 countries so I can get the DXCC award.  I am also working on contacting all 50 states in the United States for the Geratol net award on 80 meters.

I also spend time on VHF/UHF (Very High Frequency/Ultra High Frequency).  The antenna array at the right is used for tracking and using satellites.  They rotate both horizontally and vertically.  There are two preamps on the mast for the 2m and 70cm bands.  The preamps add 17DB of gain to the receiver so the satellites can be more easily heard.   The antennas are both KLM satellite antennas with circular polarization and the radio is a Yaesu FT-736R   You may click on the pictures to see a larger image of the antennas.  I really enjoy working the satellites and use a computer to track them.  I also use these bands to talk to my friends here in Arizona.  I also play around with a mode called packet radio.  That is a very interesting digital mode.  Some hams work with amateur television on these bands which is another interesting mode.
