I'll sing of a duo whose work you all know.
They started composing a long time ago.
Their names may escape you, but never their songs:
All music and lyrics by Trad and Anon.
CHORUS:
Trad and Anon, Trad and AnonThey weren't as successful as Lerner and Lowe,
Wrote the words and the tunes for the best songs.
So credit them kindly when you sing along,
Those collab'rative geniuses, Trad and Anon.
CHORUS
They don't seek publicity, shun the limelight,
Don't care if you get notes and lyrics quite right.
You'll hear them in song circles night after night,
The great compositions of Trad and Anon.
CHORUS
I'm struggling to write a derivative work,
But BMI's lawyer is being a jerk,
And writing my own stuff is just too much work.
I'll steal some ideas from Trad and Anon.
FINAL CHORUS:
Trad and Anon, Trad and Anon
Wrote the words and the tunes for the best songs.
So credit them kindly when you sing along,
They are so prolific,
Their songs are terrific,
So be more specific,
It's Trad and Anon.
