How well I thought I knew her, her laugh, her look, her smile.
For only I saw through her manufactured style.
And so I have to wonder, just how we came to be
Tormented souls bound together, dreading forever each day.
Suffering softly in silence, neither one knowing, or caring
That we had lost all the sharing, lovers no longer quite in love.
Is it too much to manage, a soulmate for all time?
How did we come to damage feelings so sublime?
As though I'd never known her. God knows she never knew me!
Tormented souls bound together, dreading forever each day.
Suffering softly in silence, neither one knowing, or caring
That we had lost all the sharing, lovers no longer quite in love.
Perhaps it's great inertia that keeps us here today.
We've never known or searched for anything to say.
And still we dread the changes we know must come our way.
Tormented souls bound together, dreading forever each day.
Suffering softly in silence, neither one knowing, or caring
That we had lost all the sharing, lovers no longer quite in love.
Someday, I know, I'll thank her, once she has set me free,
For all we had together, and all that could not be.
But not until we conquer those fears that still control us,
Tormented souls bound together, dreading forever each day.
Suffering softly in silence, neither one knowing, or caring
That we had lost all the sharing, lovers no longer quite in love.
